Family Room

We got a rug for the family room yesterday. I got some picture frames for the mantle too, and I just need to get photos printed. Now we just need a new coffee table that matches the room better than the old one we're using now and the room will be finished.

The office is the next room we're trying to finish up. We need to figure out the rest of the furniture we want and then hang stuff on the walls.

Neighbors

We FINALLY met our next door neighbors today. They had their first child (a boy) four weeks ago. Right now there is a big difference between their son and Carter, but the 12 week difference will eventually not be such a big deal. It'll be nice if the boys can play together some day. Rachel and Matt are also from North Carolina and seem to be about the same age as us.

I got my long run in today. I did 8.2 miles in 85 minutes, 35 seconds. Not that fast, but I have been running for only 10 weeks.

Carter started using his feet today to play with the toys on his activity bar. He even managed to pull one of the toys hard enough to make it play a song!

Soccer Practice

I finally made it to soccer practice today. I figured that since games start next weekend I had better go. This was the first not freezing or raining Saturday we've had since practice started. Considering I haven't played since the Fall 2007 season (I was pregnant for all three 2008 sessions), I wasn't as bad as I expected. And it seems that I'm not as slow as I had thought I would be. I guess my slow half-marathon training is paying off. I'm not too sore yet, but tomorrow's long run may be more painful than normal.

I play on a co-ed team with the men being 30+ and women 18+ with no more than six men on the field at a time. There are 4 divisions (A, B, C, and D, which is the least competitive) and we play in the C division. Our team used to lose more games than we won, but we've been picking up some more competitive players the last few years and have been finishing in the top half. I've played left back since starting with this team and occasionally play in the goal when we don't have a keeper.

Brian's Home

Brian has been in Boston since Wednesday for training and got back today. This was his second business trip since Carter was born. This one was a lot easier for me than the first one - it was also shorter. There are more on the horizon though.

Here's a picture of Carter that I took today. I think he looks so old in this picture!

Carter & His Exersaucer

Here's a video of Carter in his Exersaucer from tonight. I still have to stuff blankets around him because he's too small for it, but he seems to enjoy it. Tonight he couldn't decide though if he preferred to play or try to get his entire hand in his mouth.

If the video isn't working, you can watch it here (link).

Carter and I did some shopping today, and we found a bunch of new toys for him. They are all Infantino toys that I found at TJ Maxx and Target. I seem to buy a lot of that brand, but they always look the most interesting.

I don't know what has changed, but for the last couple of weeks, the days have been flying by. When Brian went back to work after the holidays, each day would drag by and I couldn't wait until he would get home. I could easily remember exactly how old Carter was in weeks because they went by so slowly. But now, the day seems to go so quick and the weekend arrives in no time. Maybe it's because we've gotten Carter on a bit of a schedule now with bedtime and when he wakes up in the morning. Or maybe I've turned a corner in getting used to being home and taking care of the little guy.

Sitting in the Bumbo

Carter is starting to enjoy his Bumbo chair. He sat in while I made and ate lunch today. He does get fed up after 5 to 10 minutes and starts straightening out so that he seems like he's going to flip out of the chair.

A new JCPenney opened up here this weekend and we got a $10 gift card in the mail so I picked up some stuff for Carter. The best part of these onesies are the back sides.

Carter is starting to grow out of some of his 3 month size clothes, and he fits into more of his 6 month size stuff. However, his 3 month size overalls are still all huge even though they are the same brands as the other stuff he's growing out of.

Office Furniture

The office furniture we ordered arrived today! It took 3 weeks, but it finally made it. We ordered a bow desk, desk bridge, and lateral filing cabinet. Once we get those put together and in the office, we'll figure out what else we want to finish the room off. We definitely need some bookcases and probably another filing cabinet, but we wanted to see how this stuff fits before we ordered too much furniture.

I can't wait to have the office set up so I don't have to work at the kitchen table anymore! And it'll be so nice to have a filing cabinet again instead of using the boxes we put all our files in when we moved.

Here's a picture of the bow desk and desk bridge we got together tonight ...

Hair

I noticed the other day that Carter has no hair on the back of his head! I think it's rubbed off from laying on his back with his head straight up so much. Also, I usually hold him against me facing out so he can see what's going on. He's also this way when he's in the Baby Bjorn. Hopefully once he's sitting up more and not laying down so much or needing support for his head it'll grow back in!

Carter's hair has thickened up just a little bit since he was born, but there's not a huge difference yet. It's still light but looks red in some lights.

Since I'm on the subject of hair, when I was pregnant, I stopped losing hair. I used to compete with Charlotte for who shed the most - she used to win easily though. In the last few weeks I've been losing all that extra hair I kept for 9+ months. I'm now giving Charlotte some real competition. It's insane the amount of hair I lose when washing and drying my hair - handfuls and handfuls and handfuls.

That's enough about hair. Here's a cute picture of Carter that I took after a family walk last weekend ...
