Guess What

Guess what I figured out how to do today ...

I finally got my foot in my mouth!!!

Carter was content for almost half an hour tonight just pulling his feet up to his mouth. He seemed so happy to finally get his toes all the way to his mouth.

I did it!

I ran the Knoxville Half Marathon today! And I'm happy with my time. The official results aren't up yet, but I timed myself at 2 hrs, 12 minutes, 20 seconds. That's 10:06 pace. So I was about 17 minutes slower than 3 years ago, but I did have a baby 4 1/2 months ago! A baby that allowed me to only sleep 4 hours last night and caused me to be up since 3am! Last night was the worst night Carter's had in weeks. Go figure.

It was 46F, cloudy, and super windy for the race. That's 20 degrees warmer though than 3 years ago.

I was supposed to have a soccer game this afternoon but luckily it got canceled because of soggy field conditions (it's been raining on and off since Wednesday). My knees are really sore so I'm not sure I would have been able to contribute much.

Trying So Hard

Today, Carter was trying so hard to get his feet in his mouth. He just discovered them again when I was changing his diaper this afternoon. He grabbed a foot with both hands and pulled it as hard as he could towards his open mouth. He just wasn't flexible enough to get it all the way there. Later, when sitting on Brian's lap, Carter was leaning over trying to get his mouth to his feet. Again, he just couldn't quite get there.

This morning Carter pulled the musical frog on the bar across his bouncer several times. Sometimes he'll accidentally pull it and it'll play music, but he seemed to be doing it on purpose a little more today.

Carter is getting closer to sitting on his own. He can almost do the frog or tripod sit where his hands are on the ground in front of him. He needs a little help to make sure he doesn't tip over still, but he's getting better and stronger every day.

Trip to the Zoo

Carter and I went to the zoo today. It was really nice here today - lots of rain comes in tomorrow. Carter was having a really fussy day at home, but he did really well at the zoo. Most of the animals were out even though we went in the middle of the afternoon. The gibbon was really active again and came to the window a lot. Carter actually seemed to watch him. The meerkats had 2 of their babies in the exhibit today. They played a lot and were fun to watch.

It was really crowded today. I wonder if most weekdays are like that during the summer?

Here are a few pictures from today.

Plum Trees

We (mainly Brian) planted two purple leaf plum trees yesterday and today. They are at the top of our yard.

I tried giving Carter some rice cereal again today. Again, I'm not sure if he actually swallowed any.

Soccer

I made it through my first soccer game today. I am slow and don't have much of a touch right now. Training for the half-marathon has helped me a lot with my endurance but not my speed. Hopefully I'll get better after a few games. It didn't help that we had to play down 2 players since we only had 3 girls show up. (I play in a co-ed league that allows a maximum of 6 guys and a minimum of 5 girls on the field at a time.)

Brian and Carter stopped by around half time and everyone got to meet Carter.

When I got home, Brian was finishing up feeding Carter. Apparently, Carter can now feed himself!

First Solid Food

We introduced Carter to rice cereal today. I'm not sure if any of it made it to his stomach, but he didn't seem to hate it either. He kept putting his hands in his mouth after I got some cereal in there so he pulled a lot back out that way. He got fussy after five minutes or so, but that's usually how long he'll stay in his Bumbo seat without getting fed up when no food is involved.

Basketball

One of the advantages of staying home with Carter right now is that I'm getting to watch more tournament games. Unfortunately UT lost today, but it was a close game the entire time and fun to watch. And then ETSU put up a good fight against Pitt in a very entertaining game.

Brian is coming home today. He's been in West Virginia all week. We can't wait to see him!

Carter and I tried out his Jumperoo today. He doesn't really get that he can jump yet. We'll keep practicing though!
