Carrots

I made carrots for Carter today. To make them, I peeled the carrots, chopped them, steamed them, and then pureed them in the blender. Pretty simple.

Carter made a horrible face after the first bite, but he ate the whole bowl.

This is what happens when you have a mouthful of carrots, put your hand in your mouth, and then rub your eye!

Here are a few cute pictures I got while Carter was in his swing today...

Sitting Pictures

Here are some pictures of Carter sitting. He sat without falling over for a couple of minutes while I took these pictures!

Carter's hair is finally starting to really grow. He finally has hair on the back of his head again! And the rest of it is getting longer and thickening up. Some times it looks so red and other times more blonde.

Sitting

Carter suddenly figured out how to sit on his own today. He's not perfect at it yet or anything, but it's amazing how much balance he all of a sudden has. He can sit up straight for 15 seconds or longer and then usually goes to the tripod position with his hands on the ground in front of him. He can then push back up to sitting straight up. He'll eventually fall back or to one side. He couldn't do this at all yesterday. It's just amazing to us how he just figured it out today.

We had a rainy night last night and this morning so I had another soccer game rained out. We had wanted to go hiking this weekend, but the chance of rain was too high. Maybe next weekend will be better. So we ended up painting this weekend. We painted the laundry room and started the bonus room.

Apples

Carter got to try apples today. I made them the same way I did the pears.

He ate the apples with no complaints. We haven't found a food yet that he hates.

Go Canes!

We had a thunderstorm come through last night and lost power for about an hour and a half. Luckily we have internet on our cell phones so we could keep an eye on the Carolina Hurricanes game.

The power came back on for overtime so we could watch the Canes beat the Bruins in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals! Actually, Brian watched while I slept, but he woke me up to see the final goal. (I'm worn out in the evenings with still getting up every night to feed Carter.)

We're amazed though that Carter slept through all the commotion when the power went off . We have 3 battery backups that started blaring. He did fine too in his pitch black room. We usually have a night light on in his room but since he slept more soundly last night when it was completely dark we're starting to rethink how light it is in his room at night.

6 Months Old!

Our baby is 6 months old today!!!

Carter had his 6 month checkup and shots today. Here are his measurements:
  • Weight: 15 lbs, 6 oz - 16th percentile
  • Height: 26 inches - 36th percentile
Carter gained 1 lb, 9 oz and grew 2.25 inches in 2 months. Even though he's dropped on the weight curve, the pediatrician told us not to worry. He mentioned that this often happens before breastfed babies begin eating solids regularly. Also, the curves are based on formula-fed babies so that automatically makes it more likely that Carter will be on the lower part of the curve.

Also, Carter "scored" 7 months on the Denver Developmental Screening Test.

The doctor we saw today wasn't concerned that Carter is still falling asleep on me after his last feeding and that we put him in his crib already asleep a lot of the time. Carter wasn't too happy when the doctor was examining but I think that it was mainly because this doctor had a deeper voice and Carter often gets scared when around a man with a deep voice.

Carter received the same vaccines as at his 2 and 4 month appointments. He had a bit of a fever tonight (100F) so we gave him some Tylenol before bed.

First Jog

I took Carter out in the jogging stroller this morning for the first time.

Last night Brian and I made some covers for the straps at Carter's head so that his head won't rub against the buckles. We used 30 mm thick foam and some velcro with glue on the back side. Here's a picture with one of the covers on and the other off.

The covers seem to work well. Carter's head looked fine after the run (no big red spots). We did 2.25 miles and Carter did fine the entire run. I wish we lived somewhere flat though! Hills are just that much more challenging now! We live at the highest point in our neighborhood - running away from the house isn't bad but getting back is hard.

I like the stroller though. It handled well. I'm figuring out how to turn it with the fixed front wheel. If you want to go right, you push down on the left side and pull back a little on the right. I'm still lifting up the front wheel a little sometimes but I think I'll get better with practice. It may also be easier when Carter is heavier.

Green Beans

Today's new food was green beans and Carter ate them right up. I steamed fresh green beans and then pureed them in the blender. They got surprisingly smooth without adding any water or milk.

I finally moved Carter's bathtub into the real bathtub a few weeks ago because he was splashing too much and soaking and counter, mirror, wall, and floor. He's not too big for his tub yet, but he will fit better once he can sit up on his own and not have to lay reclined in it.

This picture shows just how red Carter's hair is getting!

Happy Mother's Day

I had a really good Mother's Day. Here are a few pictures we took in the morning. I've realized that we have very few pictures of us with Carter and decided we need to make an effort to take more.

We went to Bruegger's for lunch and then headed down to the zoo. Here's Carter ready to start checking out the animals. He made it through the bears and elephants and then passed out.

Carter finally woke up for the red pandas

After the zoo we got smoothies and then headed home to watch the Players Championship. We had a great day!
