Almost 9 Months

Carter is one week shy of being 9 months old! Those first few months were the longest of my life, but time sure has been flying by this summer. I can't believe our little baby is so old already!

I took some photos of Carter this afternoon. It's getting a lot easier to get some good photos of him. Here are some of my favorites from today.

AMSE

We went to the American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge today. It was just too hot to do anything outside with Carter and it's tax free weekend so running errands didn't sound like fun with the crowds. The AMSE is the first museum Carter has been too!

The first floor of the museum is mostly the history of the city of Oak Ridge and the atomic bomb. It was actually really interesting for Brian and me but not so much for Carter. There were lots of things to read but not too much to look at. I thought Carter would fall asleep in his stroller since he was due for a nap, but he refused.

The second floor of the museum has more science exhibits. The museum is kind of old and out of date, but there were a few fun things for Carter to look at. He liked this static electricity ball (I think that's what these things are called).

Carter did really well at the museum even though we was exhausted. He passed out in his car seat before we even left the parking lot!

Pool

We went to the pool in Meredith's neighborhood today with her son, Blaine, Sarah, and Mary Grace. We attempted to get a picture of all three kids in Blaine's wagon. It was impossible to get them to all look up at the same time, but here are a few of the cuter pictures I got.

Carter had so much to say while we were in the pool. He was just jabbering away really loudly most of the time. He had so much fun that passed out on the way home. Blaine was so tired that he actually fell asleep in the pool while Meredith was holding him!

Waking up from a nap

For some reason I took my camera with me today when I was getting Carter after he woke up from his morning nap. Here's what I found ...

He's not pulling himself up to standing yet, but he was on his knees. He's getting close to standing in there! I did lower the crib one more level down to the lowest level last week. And I put the regular bumper back on this morning instead of the ugly breathable one I've had up since Carter could roll over.

Biter Biscuits

Brian's mom recommended that we try giving Carter biter biscuits to encourage him to chew so that I feel better about giving him more finger foods.

So I tried giving Carter one today.

All he did was suck on it. He didn't get the "biting" part.

He made a big mess and ate very little of the biscuit. It broke into a few large pieces which I had to fish out of his mouth before he choked on them.

I'll probably try giving him one again. Hopefully next time will be a little more successful!

Carter Clips

Here are a few videos from today ...

If Carter is awake when I want to take a shower, I usually put him in his jumperoo (which I move into the bathroom). This way I can watch him and he doesn't get into anything while I'm showering. He's a crazy jumper!

Carter LOVES to pull up on things right now, especially me. He will do this over and over and over again. Sorry for the poor video ... this is the best I could do filming it myself.

Broccoli

Carter has been such a great eater when it comes to solids. Today he had broccoli for the first time and, as usual, ate it without complaining (though he did make some funny faces when he wasn't sure what it was). As with most foods, I steamed the broccoli and pureed it with a little water.

I am so glad that Carter is a good eater! After all the trouble we've had with him keeping down food when he was younger, I'm so happy we don't have to battle getting him to eat solids (at least not yet). He is getting much better at keeping food down. I'm not holding him up for as long after feedings and he's doing well. For the last couple of weeks, I only hold Carter up for 5 minutes instead of 20 at night and he hasn't been spitting up in his crib at all. During the day it's impossible to keep Carter immobile after feeding him so we still have a little (occasionally a lot of) food coming up afterward. But he's getting better and better.

Vet and Swimming

Charlotte had her annual vet appointment today for a checkup and shots. I was a little nervous about bringing Carter with me to her appointment since she's so scared and always freaks out at the vet, but both of them did great. I asked for an appointment when the waiting room wasn't very full so I didn't have to worry about other dogs being too interested in Carter. They scheduled the appointment for when all the vets except ours were at lunch so we were the only people in the waiting room and didn't have to wait long at all. I LOVE our vet!

Charlotte shook a lot (which is normal for her) and hid while we waited.

Our vet said everything looked good with Charlotte. And she's lost about a pound in the last 6 months which is good since she had put on about 3 once we stopped exercising her as much when I got in the last few months of my pregnancy.

This afternoon we met Andre'a and her girls at the pool to go swimming for a little bit. Carter took a little while to warm up to them (he hasn't napped well today and was tired), but they got him smiling eventually. Here's a picture of him with Addison and Kelsey.

Earlier today when I was making lunch, I was letting Carter crawl around a little bit. He went into the dining room and since I know there's nothing in there he can get hurt on I didn't check on him for a minute or so. Then I heard what sounded like Charlotte moving around in her crate, but she was next to me. This is what I found ...

Honeydew

Carter kind of tried honeydew today. I cut some up into tiny little pieces for him and put them on his tray. He had a little trouble picking them up because they were slick so I put a piece in his mouth for him. He was not thrilled. He pushed it around his mouth for a couple of minutes.

Carter was already in a bad mood when he got up from his nap and was not going to give the melon a chance. Maybe tomorrow will be better. He did manage to knock some to the floor. Charlotte sniffed it and licked it some but wouldn't eat it either. I ate what was left on Carter's tray and thought it was pretty good!

Little Daredevil

Carter is turning into a little daredevil!

He's getting very confident and good at pulling up on things. He can easily pull up on me to a standing position when I'm sitting on the floor. He's great at pulling up on the bottom step and holding onto the gate. He can put his weight against the step too and stand with no hands (though I usually have to catch him after about 5 seconds).
