Karey's Wedding

We drove up to Michigan a few weeks ago for my sister Karey's wedding. She and Mike got married in a church in Grand Haven and had the reception in his parent's backyard in West Olive.

We drove all day Thursday and after 11 1/2 hours of traveling, made it just in time for my sister's mini-bachelorette party for those of us her couldn't join her in New Orleans for her official one. Brian was awesome enough to drop me off and take the boys out to dinner on his own after such a long drive.

I got to meet some of my sister's DC friends as well as some of Mike's family (Mike's parents both have a bunch of siblings, like 6 or 7 each, so he has a ton of family in the area).

The restaurant that we were at was on the water and Brian and the boys waited for me at the waterfront after they ate. It was cool but I had luckily remembered to pack some jackets.

Carter found on old playground ...

And a cool train ...

After a little playtime, we checked in to our hotel in Holland, which was just south of Grand Haven and West Olive. We stayed at a really nice Hampton Inn that had suites so that we could put Carter in the living room and Rylan in the bedroom with us.

The next morning we went over to Tunnel Park in Holland with my mom and Brian's parents. The park has a tunnel through the dunes to get to the beach on Lake Michigan.

It was COLD on the beach. It was in the 50s, overcast, and super windy so we just about froze since we had gotten used to mid-90s already.

Carter found this playground back on the other side of the dune and played for a bit before we left.

My mom and I split up from everyone else so that we could go help my sister make the bouquets for the wedding.

Brian took the boys out to lunch with his parents and then they met up with my dad, Jan, and her mom for a while.

The boys didn't get much of a chance to nap on Friday so while we got ready for the rehearsal, Carter passed out on the couch in the hotel room while watching TV.

Carter was the ring bearer and he did a good job at the rehearsal so we had hoped he'd do well the next day. The church was really small so he didn't have far to walk down the aisle.

After the rehearsal, we went to the rehearsal dinner at a local pizza place called Clover Bar. We were packed in there but we all enjoyed the pizza and beer.

We headed out a little early since the boys were getting cranky with their lack of sleep. Somehow we still didn't get them to bed until after 10 though.

The next morning I headed out early to meet up with my sister, the bridesmaids, and my mom at Reds Salon. Brian had the boys again on his own (his parents were around to help out some though). He had to entertain the kids and then get himself and the boys ready for the wedding (Brian was also a groomsman).

I, on the other hand, got to get my hair done and enjoy champagne with the girls. My sister had her nails, makeup, and hair all done.

After the salon, we headed back to my sister's hotel where we finished getting ready.

Check out my sister's shoes!!!

She looked gorgeous!

The wedding ceremony went smoothly and Carter did fine (woohoo!). After the ceremony we took pictures for a few hours and then headed to the reception.

Here's a picture of the wedding cake. Mike designed it.

Mike's parents have a tiki bar in their backyard and they had a couple of bartenders making drinks for everyone.

Carter really liked playing on the ropes used to tie down the tent. Luckily he didn't pull it down!

He also had a blast dancing. The kids took over the dance floor for awhile.

Water break!

As Matron of Honor, I got to give a speech. I was nervous but it went well.

Carter liked the cake. He got to sit with Brian and me at the head table because he refused to sit with my mom and Brian's parents at his assigned table.

Rylan slept for about an hour on my mom and then was much happier for a few hours.

This is my cousin Jennifer's little boy (Charlie) who was born the day after Carter.

Carter and Charlie had fun playing together.

And this is Jennifer and her daughter Ava Grace who was born a couple of months before Rylan. She has beautiful blue eyes that are similar to Carter's.

Here is my grandmother with all her grandkids (other than my sister) and great-grandkids.

We again had to leave earlier than we liked because the boys were getting tired and cranky. But the party was dying down so we didn't feel bad heading out.

We drove back to Tennessee the next morning. We made it in just over 10 hours on the way back. The boys were totally over being in the car but we all survived. We are glad not to have any more long drives in our future!

Ocean Isle - Days 7 & 8

Our last day at the beach was Friday, June 10th. Everyone left that morning other than us and Brian's parents.

After we said our good-byes, Brian and I took the boys down to the beach. Rylan hadn't had his morning nap so he fell asleep on me again. While he was sleeping, Brian and Carter "built" Carter's name ...

After lunch we took the boys down to the pier. Carter really liked watching the waves and surfers from up here. We even saw a jellyfish swimming in the water below us.

After the boys took their afternoon naps, we drove down to Calabash for dinner. We found a nice little restaurant on the water and enjoyed some really good fried seafood.

When we got back to the house, we took one last walk on the beach. We had another gorgeous night with amazing light.

Brian and I packed up most of our stuff that night, and we got out pretty early the next morning to start our drive home. On the way we stopped in Wilmington and picked up Charlotte from my mom's house. It was a long drive home but the boys did well considering it took several hours.

We had a lot of fun at the beach and hope we get to see everyone again next year!

Lost in Walmart

We all went to Walmart yesterday morning to pick up a few things. Rylan and I got what we needed while Brian and Carter disappeared.

While looking for them, I got an email with these pictures attached.

Daddy is definitely more fun to hang out with in Walmart than Mommy.

Pirate Party

We went to Cooper's 4th birthday party today. It was a lot of fun but it was even hotter than Rylan's party last weekend.

The party was pirate-themed. Erin and Matt did a really good job of having lots of things for the kids to use to dress up as pirates.

There was even a treasure hunt. Lily (Cooper's big sister) read the clues and helped the younger kids figure out where to go ...

Divvying up the treasure ...

Carter with his treasure - a ring pop ...

Rylan liked this chair a lot - he looks like such a big boy!

Ocean Isle - Day 6

We spent the day around the house again on Thursday, June 9th. We went to the beach in the morning during what would be Rylan's normal nap time. After an hour of playing in the sand and some time in the waves, he passed out on me.

After dinner that night, we went down to the beach to fly a kite. On the way to the beach, the cousins (minus Rylan) posed for a group shot ...

It was super windy most of our trip so it was pretty easy to fly a kite. Brian showed Carter how to do it ...

And he quickly had the hang of it ...

Then it was time to play "run and run and run while screaming" or "get out the last of your energy so you sleep great".

Carter really did adore Maddie ...

Carter with some cute expressions ...

I love this picture of Brian with Rylan ...

When we got back into the house, Maddie read some books to Dominic and Carter before bed ...

Progress with Pulling Up

Rylan is starting to have some interest in pulling himself up. He is starting to pull up on the steps. It's not much, but it's a start!

Drywall Repair

The ceiling in our guest room was repaired today. The repair man redid the texture on the entire section of ceiling so it'll all match. He has to come back tomorrow to paint. So far it looks good.

In order to add the texture to only this one area, he had to create a little tent out of plastic.

This afternoon another repair man showed up to pressure wash our driveway so that the gouges created by the roofers' trailer will blend in more. He's still working on it so I don't know how it looks. Hopefully it helps!

Pop-Its

We bought a box of Pop Its / Snappers for Carter to play with yesterday. He loved them and went through the entire box in just a few minutes.

Fireworks

We have absolutely no need to go to an official fireworks display. These are some videos taken from our front porch.

We had two groups on the back street that set off hundreds of fireworks. And then there were dozens of groups we could see just over the tree line. There were constant "booms" going on for hours.

We thought about keeping Carter up to see the fireworks, but it doesn't really get dark until 9:30 pm and we were both exhausted and didn't want to try to entertain a cranky toddler who was up past his bedtime. He was scared of the fireworks last year and we thought he might hate it again this year.

Carter had trouble going to sleep. We put him to bed before the fireworks started, but he apparently wasn't really tired yet. Once the fireworks started, he thought the roofers were back "fixing Mama's house". But after Brian talked with him for a bit, he went to sleep.

Rylan woke up around 10:15 pm. He was okay if I was holding him, but as soon as I put him down, he started screaming again. I eventually just had to let him cry it out. It took awhile but the fireworks were dying down by then.

Farragut Fourth of July Parade

We went to the Fourth of July Parade in Farragut this morning. It started at 9:30 am and was already hot. We met up with Amy's family and her friend Brandi's family.

Carter was super excited about the parade when it first started ...

As was Rylan. He kept clapping at whatever was passing by ...

Both boys especially loved the sheriff's helicopter that passed back and forth ...

There were some antique cars, fire trucks, dance teams ...

But mostly a lot of businesses ...

And people handing out a ton of candy ...

Brandi's boys, Jack and Owen ...

Caitlyn and Carter trading up candy and toys ...

Rylan fell asleep near the end of the parade. He did not want to give up these Smarties ...
