Moved In

We moved into our apartment today. It's been a really crazy couple of days and I'll post more about it all this weekend. We have a ton of unpacking to do this weekend but we're relatively happy with the place so far.

The good news ... we closed on our house today.

The bad news ... our air conditioner broke yesterday and requires a new evaporator coil (it's going to cost around $1200). And our siding repairs still haven't been completed.

We had someone "famous" moving us ... Kid Kash. He was a professional wrestler with the WWE and has his own moving company that contracts out to the company we hired.

Bye Knoxville! Hello Nashville!

We are moving. On Friday! I've avoided posting about all this but it's time.

Brian got a new job in Nashville (specifically, Brentwood) and started back on March 14th. So I've been holding down the fort with the boys in Knoxville during the week while Brian has been in Nashville. Brian has worked from home a couple of weeks and worked some short weeks in Nashville so that he still gets to see us for more than just on the weekend, but it's still been hard.

We put our house on the market on March 2nd and finally signed a contract on July 7th. We lowered our price once, had a total of 29 showings, 4 open houses, and got 2 offers that both came in at the beginning of July.

The first offer was a low-ball offer and after several counter-offers, we got to a price we could accept. We were all ready to sign with that buyer but then a second offer came in for essentially the same amount. Our realtor did some research on both buyers and we ended up going with the second buyers because it felt safer with their situation that everything would go through with the sale of their home.

We have decided to build a home in Franklin, which is a suburb in south Nashville that is adjacent to Brentwood, the suburb that Brian works in. We have picked the house plan and the structural upgrades. We have an appointment in a few weeks at the builder's design center to pick out all of our details (such as color of cabinets, style of doors, etc).

While our house is being built, we are staying in a 3 bedroom apartment in Franklin. We are on the second of three floors with our private garage below us. We haven't seen the actual apartment yet because the current tenants just moved out this past weekend. Hopefully it's nice and they put in new carpet!

Our one big concern right now is that we haven't completed all of our repairs from the hail storm. Our siding, trim, fascia, and garage door trim are finally supposed to be started tomorrow. The supplies got delivered this afternoon.

We've been promised that everything will be done on Friday. We think we've figured out a way with our realtors and the title company to still go through with closing on Friday morning even if the repairs aren't 100% complete.

My mom has been here for 2 1/2 weeks helping to watch the boys while I pack the house. Since we are going to put a lot of our stuff in storage I decided to pack instead of have movers do it so I could take my time deciding what is stored and what is going to the apartment. Our movers are supposed to show up at 9 am tomorrow morning. My mom is still here so she's going to help with the boys while the movers load the trucks. It should be interesting managing the movers and siding installers that will be using scaffolding!

Teeth

Rylan has 5 teeth coming in right now! He's getting both first molars and eye teeth on top and also his lower left first molar. The lower right first molar finally broke through that huge eruption cyst a couple of weeks ago.

Mobile

Rylan is finally interested in pulling up on things. He can now get to standing at a low table, couch, or bed. He doesn't really cruise yet, but he's able to sit back down without getting hurt. Here's a video of him getting up but I took it in the wrong direction ...

Rylan is also loving climbing up stairs. He went all the way up to the second floor several times today.

Birthday Party

I took the boys to a birthday party today for Blaine and his cousin Mason. It was SO HOT and Carter didn't want to play with the water toys so we sweated in the driveway. The boys didn't seem to notice and had lots of fun. I think I found the next big toys we need to buy ...

The party eventually moved indoors for food and presents and we all got to cool off. I can't wait for a break in the heat!

A Couple of Videos

The other day Carter was doing belly-flops on our bed while Rylan was sitting on it. Rylan has become quite the imitator and started copying Carter. I got a video of the boys doing belly-flops again yesterday ...

Carter is getting better at swimming. He hasn't gotten his arms into it yet and he is wearing a swim vest that helps him float (but doesn't keep him above water on it's own). He just kicks, kicks, kicks and moves along.

Bath

The pool counts as a bath, right? My mom and I have taken the boys to the pool the last two nights after dinner in lieu of a bath. They aren't complaining!

However Carter did get a timeout right before we left because he threw my keys in the pool. The remote entry for the car still worked - hopefully it continues to.

Lounging

Caitlyn and Alek came over to play today. I think Carter wore himself out ...

Rylan Update

It's been awhile since I've written about all the stuff Rylan is doing now.

Rylan is getting better and better at pulling up on things. I usually leave him downstairs when I take Carter up for his nap. Usually he just plays with some toys, crawls around and explores, or just sits and screams for a few minutes. Last week when I came back downstairs after about 2 minutes, Rylan was up on the first step. I need to put the gate up back up at the bottom of the stairs!

Rylan has also been pulling himself up to standing sometimes. He doesn't stay standing for long and doesn't really like standing when we hold him up, but he's at least doing it a little more. I think Rylan will be so much happier when he gets more mobile. He's fussy a lot (a lot more than Carter was at this age) and I think he's just bored.

Rylan is pretty much over baby food. He'll eat some but he'd much rather eat cut up table food.

Rylan is STILL not sleeping through the night. My plan is to just cut him off from contact completely here in a few days. I think we'll just have to let him cry anytime he wakes up before 5 am. I'm not looking forward to it because getting up and nursing him when he wakes up takes 10-15 minutes and I'm half asleep through it. When we let him cry at night, he'll scream for up to an hour. And a lot of times he'll only sleep an hour or so and start all over again. So I've been bad and feeding him at night so I can sleep more but I'm also super tired all the time because I am getting up at night with him, even if it's not for too long. It's time we figured this out!

Rylan loves to play peek-a-boo. He's like Brian and rubs his eyes a lot. When he's doing this, he'll suddenly remember he likes peek-a-boo and cover his eyes. Then he throws his arms off to the side and smiles at you.

Rylan and Carter get along pretty well. The usually do best when I'm in a different room and leave them to play on their own! But there are many times they want the same toy and then there is a lot of screaming. Carter will just take things from Rylan (sometimes he tries replacing the thing he wants with anther toy) and then Rylan (if on his stomach) will launch himself forward and head-butt Carter. And then they both start screaming. Rylan isn't usually strong enough to take things from Carter but he does try and gets really mad when he doesn't succeed.

Rylan has started pointing and grunting at whatever he wants. He says mama and dada some, but I'm still not really sure he knows what that means.

Rylan is maturing and changing a lot right now! I can't wait for him to start walking!!!

Home Repair Update

We've finally had some progress on repairs to our house today.

Our gutters and downspouts were replaced. They are now seemless and look great.

We also finally had one of our vents on the roof replaced. The guy who pressure washed our driveway (to try to make gouges in the driveway blend in - it only helped a little) came out yesterday to replace the vent. He unfortunately didn't bring a long enough ladder yesterday and was going to have to come back another time. On his way backing down the driveway, he wasn't paying attention and got a few feet off the driveway and ran over our backflow valve for our irrigation system. Water was shooting several feet in the air. We got the water off after a few minutes but he destroyed the valve and all the PVC.

The guy came back out today and replaced the valve and got the vent fixed by using the gutter guys' ladder.
