Monkey Joe's

We met Missy, Heather, Jen, and their kids today at Monkey Joe's.  Rylan is getting so good at playing on the inflatables!

(Warning: This video was taken with my phone while kids were bouncing me around.)

Owl Babies

We went to storytime at the Brentwood Library this morning.  Today's book was "Owl Babies" so the kids made a craft with the three owls in a tree.

I signed the boys up for the summer "listener" program last week at this library too.  For this program you have to commit to a certain number of books to listen to this summer.  Once you reach the goal, you get a prize.  I decided on 50 books for Rylan and 200 for Carter (that was before I knew I had to write down the title of every book they listened too!).

We've slowed down a little with our reading now that we've been out of the house more.  Rylan is up to 12 books and Carter is at 18.

And so far, so good with potty training.  Carter hasn't had an accident at home in a few days and he's still perfect when we've been out of the house!

Dress Up

Girls dress up in their princess dresses and tutus, and this is how my boys play dress up ...

Let's Go Bowling

The main bowling alley in Franklin (Jaymar Franklin Family Entertainment Center) offers kids one free game of bowling every day of the summer.  I'm guessing they still charge for shoes, but the smallest size they have are toddler 8s (which is what Carter wears) but the guy working decided both kids could just use the shoes they were wearing.

I had a coupon for a $0.99 game and with my shoe rental, it came to a whole $4.33 for the three of us to bowl one game (which is about the limit of the boys' attention span).

It was so much fun!  The boys were really into it!

The bumpers went up on the lanes for the boys and automatically went down for me (I had a couple of pathetic gutter balls so I didn't think it was fair).

Carter started out with the two of us pushing his ball.

He started using the ramp for the middle part of his game.

And at the end, Carter wanted to "throw" the ball like me so we "threw" it together.

Rylan used the ramp every time and was really good at giving the ball a hard push.

Rylan was winning for awhile but Carter was the only one to get a strike.

Here are a few videos of the kids ...

We got a print out of the scores as we were leaving.  I ended up with 121, Rylan had 92, and Carter had 82.  I haven't bowled in years so I didn't think that was too bad.

No one asked who won and I didn't tell anyone.  Carter probably would have pouted for a bit that he lost and I didn't want to ruin how much fun he had during his first time bowling.

Playdate & Yard Work

We had Missy and Jen and their boys over this morning to play.

Watching the last of the trenches for the irrigation system being dug ...

I was trying to get all the boys on the bench for a picture, but 2 out of 5 isn't bad.

Our contractor installed the rain sensor in the gutter this afternoon.  Carter and Rylan enjoyed watching him use his machine as a ladder!

Seven Years

Happy Anniversary!

Don't we look young :)

Rylan Napping

All of Rylan's napping yesterday took place in the car.

This does NOT look comfortable!

Little Texas

Tonight we went over to Crockett Park in Brentwood for the first show in their Concert Series.  In June and July, they have free concerts on Sunday evenings at 7 pm.  Tonight's performer was Little Texas (I don't know them but they apparently had some country hits in the 90's).

We got there around 6 pm and had a picnic.  We had a gorgeous weekend to make up for last weekend's heat.  It got into the upper-80s today but it was nice this evening.

Carter took a picture of the rest of us ...

And then Carter wanted me to take his picture doing this ...

The field in front of the amphitheater filled up ...

but we still had plenty of space around us for the boys to dance!

A lot of kids were up front dancing.  Carter asked to go up there but I think it was too loud for him because he wanted to go back to our blanket after about half a song.  We got a closer look at the band at least.

The boys had a blast.  Even though it wasn't that hot, Carter was super sweaty from all his dancing.  We packed up around 7:45 pm since the boys had gotten to bed late last night too and we didn't want to push them too much (and get stuck in the traffic leaving the park).

Carter Photos

Carter has been asking me to take his picture a lot lately when we are out.

On Thursday he asked me to take his picture in the big rocking chair at The Factory ...

Today, after I took the boys to the Kids Workshop at Home Depot, we did a little shopping at Hobby Lobby for Rylan's pirate-themed birthday party.  Carter put on this hat and held up this sign and asked for his picture to be taken ...

And this is a random picture I took tonight.  We went over to a friend's house to watch the Ecuador vs. Argentina soccer game this evening (Brian's friend is from Ecuador).  Even though a few other families came, there was a ton of food left over.  We ended up taking some ribs home with us and Carter chowed down on them before bed!

Public Restroom

As I mentioned yesterday, I am finally 100% committed to potty training Carter.  There is no going back now.

We had a huge success today with TWO successful trips to public restrooms!  This was the first time Carter has ever peed on a potty outside of our house.

We ran errands for a couple of hours this afternoon.  While in Target, Carter announced to me that he had to go potty.  We hustled over to the family restroom, opened up his portable potty seat to put on the toilet, and he peed.

So, I know we need to not have to have the portable potty seat.  But it gives Carter a little more security right now and it seems so much cleaner than him sitting on the seat.

While eating dinner at McDougals with Brian, Carter said he had to potty.  I took him to the restroom and he did great again.  About half way back to our table, he yelled out, "Daddy, I go pee!"  I'm sure everyone enjoyed hearing that!
