Radnor Lake

Radnor Lake State Natural Area is in Brentwood, just west of I-65.

We've been meaning to go there since we moved here but after seeing a mention of the park in Backpacker Magazine this month, I decided that today was the day!

After Carter's soccer game and a quick lunch, we headed over to the park.  There are several trails in the park that surround Radnor Lake.

We parked in the East Parking Lot and took the Access Trail to the Lake Trail on the north side of the lake.

The first part of the hike was especially gorgeous with the forest being really open and hilly.

The leaves are just starting to change.  Next weekend will probably be a lot better.

After getting to the West Parking Lot we walked on Otter Creek Road back to the car.  The road is now closed in the park and just used for hiking (it's the only place you can have dogs, bike, or run).

We really liked this park.  It was a little crowded (I think we always saw at least one other group) but that's probably due to it being fall.  It's extremely convenient though so hopefully we'll be back soon!

Birthday Invitations

After going to Carson's birthday party a few weeks ago, Carter keeps telling me that he wants his birthday party to be at Glow Galaxy too.  I resisted for awhile because it's a little expensive, but when he didn't give up, we decided to do it.

I ordered invitations earlier this week and they arrived today.  I used Cardstore, which I highly recommend (they are great quality and inexpensive) - I've used them for Christmas cards, birthday cards, and party invitations before.

The box had this cute confetti paper in it this time.

Glow Galaxy is lit with black lights so it's dark with everything "glowing" in the dark.  So I picked a black invitation to somewhat match that.

I think they turned out cute.  Carter is super excited!

Cheekwood

The boys, my mom, and I went to Cheekwood today.  It was cool and breezy but still beautiful!  This may be the best season to visit!

Letterboxing with Grandma

Yesterday morning the boys and I took my mom letterboxing.  I found several new boxes that had been placed recently and we went on the hunt for 3 of them.

Our first stop was at Liberty Park which is where the dog park is that we used to take Charlotte to when we lived in the apartment.  It's only a few minutes from our house.

The clue for "Hacking It Up" said the box was at the base of the only cedar tree.  Unfortunately that tree had been removed - only branches and bark remained.  Luckily though we found the letterbox after a little searching sitting out in the open at the base of another tree.

Next we went over to Aspen Grove Park.

We searched for a bunch of letterboxes here a few weeks ago and didn't find any of them because they'd all been taken.  However this one was launched only 2 days earlier so we were pretty sure it would still be there.  And Carter was excited because this letterbox was for Halloween!

Do you see the letterbox hidden beneath these leaves?

Carter got to open this letterbox.

There was a very neat haunted house stamp in this letterbox!

As well as a hitchhiker!  I was so happy to finally be placing the one we got back in Burlington, NC a couple of months ago in this letterbox and now I got another one I need to place.

Our third stop of the day was on the Ruby Lynch Trail.

The letterbox was hidden in this rock wall ...

behind these rocks.

Here is what was in the letterbox.

Included in this letterbox was a stowaway (another stamp that stays with the letterbox).

I was going to place the hitchhiker in this letterbox since there was room for it but I think it may have started in this letterbox recently.  Hopefully the boys and I will get out soon to place it!

We walked the trail for a bit and then took Carter to speech.

We had lots of fun showing grandma how we do letterboxing!  (I know, we are dorks. :) )
