Grayson is filling out. He doesn't have a checkup until January, but I'm super curious to see how much he weighs. He feels a lot heavier already.

And he's balding. Grayson still has the hair around the side and back of his head but most of the hair on the top of his head has fallen out.

Loose Tooth
I took the boys to the dentist yesterday morning for a cleaning.
Again, Rylan refused to let the hygienist clean his teeth. We talked about what the hygienist would do on the way there and Rylan told he could do it. He's 4 now and a lot older. I also told Rylan that we'd go to Chuck E. Cheese (his favorite place) if he was brave.
As soon as Rylan got in the back, he told me he didn't want the hygienist to touch his teeth. She was really good and we tried lots of things to make Rylan comfortable. Nothing worked. In the end I held Rylan's hands down and she did a super quick polish as he screamed through lips that she had to pry open. It was not pretty. Rylan was then disappointed when I told him he did not earn Chuck E. Cheese.
Carter on the other hand did awesome. I didn't get to pay any attention to him since I was trying to help Rylan. But he let the hygienist clean his teeth for over 30 minutes with no complaining (both boys get lots of staining at their gumlines that is difficult to remove). He even said it didn't hurt at all.
And ... surprise ... Carter has his first loose tooth! One of the bottom, middle teeth. Also, his 6-year-old molars are halfway in. I had not even noticed!!! I swear I brush his teeth after he does!!!
Carter also had a panoramic x-ray of his mouth. All his permanent teeth are in place below the baby teeth. Carter's baby teeth are tight and the hygienist mentioned his permanent teeth are large - yay. Brian and I both had permanent molars pulled to make more room in our mouths so I guess that crowding in Carter's mouth is no surprise.
Luckily, Grayson only fussed a couple times for less than a minute. We may have been kicked out if he was screaming the whole time too!

Christmas Parade
On Saturday afternoon we went to the Franklin Christmas Parade. This was the first time we've ever gone. In the past we always had a conflict or it was just horrible weather. Saturday was a little chilly but manageable.
We got downtown early, did a little shopping, and then got a spot about 40 minutes before the parade started (plus the time it took to get to us - we were about halfway through the route).
The boys did pretty good waiting for the parade to start. Grayson snoozed in his stroller until about midway through the parade when he got fussy and I had to get him out.
The parade was pretty long - probably about 45 minutes. There were a lot businesses advertising themselves, marching bands, dance groups, firetrucks, beauty pageant winners, other organizations (like Girl Scouts), and random things like this reindeer.
The big boys' favorite part was the candy that a lot of groups threw out. They filled up one of their hats with everything they got.
The best float (by far) was the one advertising Ashbusters Chimney Services. It was awesome!
And I loved the end. They were shooting fake snow out to go along with Santa's float. It was really, really cool.
The parade was fun and we'll definitely go again. We even saw people we knew on one of the floats!

Art Show
Carter's school had an art show last night. Each grade level had done the same art project and then each child's art was framed. We could then buy the framed art for $27 to raise money for the art program.
Carter did a great job!
Carter was very proud of his art and really wanted us to buy it. At some point we have to draw the line with giving money to the school. I promised Carter we'd put it one of his frames in his room when he gets it back. He was satisfied with that.

Elf on the Shelf Friday
Mr. Elf is back.
He arrived on December 1st from the North Pole. We found him like this on our kitchen table on Monday morning. Rylan was so oblivious that he sat at the table for about 20 minutes and ate breakfast and never noticed him. Carter finally noticed him when he got up!
On Tuesday morning we found that he had gotten into Brian's coffee overnight.
I think he had a little too much caffeine!
On Wednesday we found that Mr. Elf had decided to help us with some decorating and put lights on our reindeer. He didn't do a very good job.
Laura brought us dinner on Wednesday night and told us that McCabe had written their elf a note with questions. Carter decided to do the same thing that night. And Rylan made him a picture.
Here is a scanned copy of the questions.
On Thursday morning we found that Mr. Elf had answered the questions.
This morning we found Mr. Elf in Grayson's crib. Apparently he really wants his own baby to take care of! He'd put a diaper on one of our stuffed toys and was putting it in a sleeper. He also had a book and toy for his "baby".

Stone Door
Grayson went on his first hike on Sunday! It was a warm day (mid-60s) and we really wanted to take advantage of the nice weather. That morning Brian found us a fun little hike that was perfect for our family.
We hiked the Stone Door Trail in South Cumberland State Recreation Area. This part of the park was about 45 minutes east of Manchester (where Bonnaroo is held each year). So it took us about 1 hour and 45 minutes to get there. Grayson did really well on the drive there, only fussing a few times for a couple of minutes.
We got a bit of a late start and didn't get there until noon. We ate our packed lunch and I fed Grayson and then we were on our way. The hike to the Stone Door is one mile. The trail is rolling but there aren't any huge hills. The beginning of the hike is paved to an overlook and then it's a really nice, wide trail after that.
I put Grayson in the Baby Bjorn and he was content. He was awake for about 5 minutes and then slept the rest of the hike.
At first Carter stopped every couple of minutes and asked me to take his picture. Which I did, of course! I'm not going to say no because then when I actually want to take his picture, he may not do it!
The overlook and the end of the paved section ...
I deleted most but another picture Carter asked me to take :)
On the hike to the Stone Door, Carter led and Rylan trailed behind. But he walked the whole time!
We made it to the to of the Stone Door! The bridge is to an overlook and the top of the Stone Door is to the right.
The Stone Door is a crack in the cliff that runs from the top to the bottom that looks like a door left slightly ajar. Stones have been placed in it to make steps to get down to the bottom.
It's pretty cool walk to the bottom and the boys did great.
At the bottom of the steps, we took a break and had some snacks. There was a group top-roping there too that the boys watched (it was a group new to climbing though so they weren't doing much).
We also got a family photo :)
Brian took the boys one at a time around the corner behind us the above photo to explore the cliff. He took the camera when he took Rylan over and got a few cute photos.
After awhile he headed back up the steps. The boys (without permission) ran off ahead of us.
Luckily no one got tired half way up!
Once at the top, we crossed the bridge and went out to the overlook.
Brian took the boys to the edge. He made them crawl out (it goes straight down off the edge).
They weren't scared at all!
After that we hiked back to the trailhead. Rylan was a little slow and wanted to be carried at one point but I had thought ahead and had some bribery cookies in the car that kept him going.
When we got to the trailhead, we offered the boys up one more 0.3 mile loop hike that started from the same location to a waterfall. They both wanted to do it.
This is Laurel Falls (I think we've been to at least 10 Laurel Falls in Tennessee - it's a VERY common name).
On the ledge at the top of the falls ...
When we made it back to the car, the boys had their treats and I fed Grayson again. We had planned on one more hike in another part of the park but it was already 3:30 pm and it gets dark so early that we didn't want to risk another mile with our tired boys.
Grayson was more fussy on the way home but both big boys passed out and slept through it. We had a great day and I'm so glad Grayson got to get out for his first hike!
