Brothers

Gray LOVES his big brothers.  He does get so mad at them when they don't play with him the way he wants and he thinks it's funny to go up to one of them, punch him, and say, "Hit Carter/Rylan!".  But he also imitates everything they do (that's probably where the punching came from).  He has to be included in whatever they are doing.  He follows them around at the baseball and soccer fields.  He gives them hugs when they are walking to the car from school.  Even though he doesn't have a buddy close to his age like the big boys did when they were little, Gray seems to think having two big brothers is pretty cool.

Another Game Ball

Rylan earned his game ball today!

Brian is coaching Rylan's team again this season (though he wasn't able to coach the entire game today because he had to leave to coach Carter's soccer game).  Rylan earned the game ball today because of his amazing inning at first base (after Brian had already left).  Rylan got all three outs that inning when he caught throws to first.  The first two were not good throws from pitcher but Rylan was able to stretch to get them.  The first one he was laying on the ground and was able to get his toe to the base before the runner got there.  The third out came from a throw from the second baseman.

Rylan is doing well this season.  He's had a few strikeouts but is able to almost always get on base.  His hits stay in the infield but he's still doing a great job making contact with the ball.  Like Carter, Rylan has a good arm.  He can get the ball in from outfield amazingly quick (unlike most of his team that doesn't seem to be in much of a hurry most of the time - it's really frustrating!).  Rylan does a good job fielding most of the time though I think he's in a hurry sometimes to make a throw and lifts his glove before he actually gets the ball.  But (like Carter) his head is always in the game and he knows what to do with the ball when he gets it.  He knows he has to hold the ball up quickly for time to be called and hustles to get overthrows into the infield.  Rylan's a super smart player and gives it his all every time he plays.  We are super proud of him!!!

Game Ball

Carter got the game ball at his baseball game tonight!

Carter's team is struggling a little this season (they are now 2-4). But Carter is doing well.  He's has an amazing arm.  He can get the ball in from outfield extremely fast.  He throws so far with amazing accuracy.  Carter is a little scared of the ball and will miss or fumble some balls that are hit to him but he's also stopping a ton and making some great throws to make outs.  His hitting well - only a couple of strikeouts and almost always getting on base.  He always has his head in the game and knows where to make the play (something half his team doesn't).  Overall he's doing great!  At the beginning of the season he told me that this was going to be his last season but I think he's found a love for the game again and is now talking about playing in the fall again.  He's asking to practice more on his own and wants to get better.  I'm just glad he's enjoying it!

Easter Day

Last Sunday was Easter and luckily it was much nicer weather than this weekend (I think we're up to 5" of rain so far).  In the morning the boys found their Easter baskets that were hidden by the Easter bunny in our pantry.  The big thing in the big boys baskets were Eno hammocks.  We are hoping to camp more this year and they should be fun for the boys.

Gray got lots of trains and pickup trucks (his favorite, right now).

As usual, the Easter bunny covered our front door with paper and left a note telling the kids not to peek.  He also assigned each kid two egg colors each for them to find.  We made the boys wait until about 8 am to go hunt the eggs (we had to give in because there was starting to be too much peeking through the blinds).

Each kid had 30 eggs to find and we eventually found them all!  Gray totally understood that he could only collect his two colors and was so excited whenever he spotted one.

Gray excitedly pointing out an egg!

The boys were so excited to try out their hammocks.  Rylan had optional baseball practice in the afternoon so we headed over to Crockett Park early.  We played tennis with the boys for awhile and then set up their hammocks near the baseball field until it was time for practice.

They've been asking everyday since to go again!

Rylan's Worksheets

Here are some of the worksheets Rylan has brought home the last few weeks.  Some are sweet and some are funny.

If I had a pot of gold I will buy stuff what we need. I will buy healthy food for my family.  I will buy clothes for my family.

My 3 wishes:  I want a pot of dollars.  Next I want a nice and sweet playful dog!  Last I want a baby turtle!

I would like to save money this year so I can: Buy a TV.  Because I want to watch it in my room.  The TV is black.

Ways I Can Earn Money: (1) Making stuff (2) Lemonade stand (3) Doing chores - folding bed (4) Garage sale

It's kind of funny that Rylan doesn't mention Brian's job but shows my "job" of selling stuff off the front porch that I make!

The Easter Bunny is stuck!  How would you get him out?  My Easter Bunny named Carrots is stuck in a hole.  I must get him out.  First I will dig him out.  Carrots is so happy he is free!  The End.

Rylan is doing such a great job sounding out words.  And he seems to know what adjectives are (he's better than me!).

Nashville Zoo

After we got back from Atlanta for Spring Break (which I still need to post about), we still had a few days off from school.  On one of those days I took the kids to the zoo.  When I renewed our membership this year, I added on the new "Unlimited Ride Pass".  We rode the carousel three times in a row ...

The Soaring Eagle zipline finally opened for the day and we got to ride it for the first time.  Since it costs $8 per person normally, we would have never ridden it otherwise.  I got to ride with each of the big boys and Gray hung out in his stroller with a snack.  The boys each tried to take a video - here are parts of the one Rylan took of Carter and me.

The boys also got to ride the train for the first time.  It's a loop that is not much larger than our kitchen (that's only a slight exaggeration).

Gray still thought it was awesome!

Always love the meerkats!

Petting the turtles is pretty cool too!

Lofton

Jen and I hang out a lot because we both have little ones that are still not in preschool (and we are good friends!).  Lofton will be 2 in summer and Gray gets to spend a lot of time with her.  Though it's often in a stroller when we take the kids for a walk.  You wouldn't know they are almost 8 months apart though because I think Lofton is actually taller than Gray.

The kids are still at an age that they don't play together as much as they are both doing their own thing in the same room.  Though Gray does get very possessive of both me and some of his toys.  Lofton doesn't know a stranger and likes to sit in my lap.  Gray is not cool with that and will try to move her out or just get really mad.  He also will also take a toy out of Lofton's hands if he doesn't want to share with her.  We are working on that.

Jen and I decided to switch off and watch each other's little one this semester so we could each go on field trips with our older kids.  So I got to watch Lofton on Thursday.

Lofton was at our house for about 5 hours and Gray did really well with her (except for a couple of times he didn't like that she had a toy he wanted).

Building Legos together ...

I busted out the double BOB and took the kids for a walk ...

On an ice cream date :)

Derby Run

Last Friday the boys' school had their Derby Run fundraiser.  The kids collect pledges and are then challenged to run as many laps around the car riders' circle as they can in about 30 minutes.

This was Rylan's first year and he did great - 17 laps!  Most in his class!  He had to walk some but didn't really even look THAT tired.

Rylan with his buddies Hudson (18) and Ian (17).

Amogh (16) joined for this photo (Amogh and Hudson are probably Rylan's best friends this year).

Kindergarten was the first group to run and 2nd grade was the second group which worked out nicely for me and Gray!  I volunteered for both grade levels and counted laps for both classes.  Gray was good but started getting antsy during Carter's run.  Luckily he never got in anyone's way!

Carter also did a GREAT job.  He did 18 laps this year (he had done 17 in kindergarten and 20 last year but I have no idea if they had the exact same amount of time).  Carter did look really tired this year.

Gray Singing

Gray sings the Pentatonix song "Hallelujah" ALL THE TIME.  It drives Rylan nuts.  I filmed him singing a little bit this weekend on the song field ...

And I apparently say "oh my gosh" all the time because little man says it out of the blue quite often.  Now that I'm aware of it, I've noticed I do say it a lot more than I thought.
