Percy Warner - White Trail

We took the boys for an afternoon hike at Percy Warner Park today since it got up to 60F.  The park is in Nashville and a great (and hilly place) to go trail running (they also added mountain bike trails a few years ago).  I don't think we've hiked there before (Brian swears we have once before).  Today we parked by the Belle Meade Steps and hiked the white trail (about 2.5 miles).  It was a good hike except for the crazy mud.  The trail about sucked our boots off half the time.  Though we ended up quite muddy, no one slipped and fell in the muck which was a big win for us!

I got a new phone about a week ago and the boys like trying out the new portrait mode for the camera :)

Elf on the Shelf Friday

Saturday, December 15th

Mr. Elf set up a car wash for the boys' cars.

Sunday, December 16th

Rylan had been asking for Life (apparently he plays it during indoor recess at school).  Mr. Elf must have heard him talking about it because he brought it for us!!!

Monday, December 17th

A Monster Truck show!!!  The stuffed snowman and elf were staying safe with their ear protection.

Tuesday, December 18th

The boys had built Mr. Elf some gifts out of Lego Duplos.  We apparently caught him playing when we got up in the morning.

Wednesday, December 19th

Mr. Elf is not good at skiing.  He tried using things from our Paw Patrol advent calendar.

Thursday, December 20th

Mr. Elf went on safari.  The boys really liked the tigers eating a gazelle!

Friday, December 21st

Mr. Elf must have heard us singing Baby Shark and wanted to do his own thing ...

Elf on the Shelf Friday

Saturday, December 8th

Mr. Elf made us some very large Christmas lights for the playroom.  They are still up :)

Sunday, December 9th

Mr. Elf made a gingerbread house - hahaha!  Carter got it :)

Monday, December 10th

On Monday we found Mr. Elf in a new swing in our Christmas tree.

Tuesday, December 11th

Mr. Elf made a climbing wall out of bows on our front door.

Wednesday, December 12th

Mr. Elf wrapped the boys' shoes in foil ... hhhmmmmm.

Thursday, December 13th

I think we caught Mr. Elf in the act of cleaning out the couch and he was stuck in it for the day and couldn't watch anyone!

Friday, December 14th

Mr. Elf made a fun ride with some of his buddies in the dryer!  We didn't turn it on to test the masking tape's strength.

Elf on the Shelf Friday

And he's back!  Mr. Elf arrived back at our house on December 1st.

Saturday, December 1st

Mr. Elf brought the boys an advent calendar.  Gray likes Paw Patrol right now, which I'm sure Mr. Elf knows.  He arrived hanging from Sky's helicopter.

Unfortunately the workbench isn't as stable as Mr. Elf had hoped.  When the boys were running by it, he and Sky fell down ... on top of Rylan.  It FREAKED him out.  He came running upstairs a little hysterical.  I think he thought Mr. Elf was going to come alive on top of him and start moving.  That would freak me out too!

Sunday, December 2nd

Mr. Elf got a little hurt when he fell the day before, but he left a note saying he was "all good".

Monday, December 3rd

Carter and Rylan both bought Mibro robots recently.  They came with soccer goals, balls, and foam fingers.  Mr. Elf wore his soccer uniform to cheer on the robots.  (Carter drew a shirt for his Mibro that matched Mr. Elf's uniform so that it appeared he was cheering for Carter's robot.)

Tuesday, December 4th

Mr. Elf finally got a little mischievous!  The boys LOVED this!

Brian's feet look very pretty with pink polish :)

Wednesday, December 5th

Mr. Elf left the boys some funny slime to play with.

Elf drool, snowman snot, and reindeer droppings ... ha!

Thursday, December 6th

Mr. Elf decided to help me out with the cleaning.

He has some cool new boots with suction cups!!

Friday, December 7th

Mr. Elf must not like that it has felt almost as cold as the North Pole this week!  He set himself up a little beach with the kinetic sand Gray got for his birthday.  He also has some new clothes we hadn't seen before!

Rylan's Art

A couple of projects Rylan did in art class in the last few weeks ...

Basketball Season

Carter and Rylan had their first basketball games of the season on Saturday.  This year we are trying out the Brentwood Ball Club league.  It is also part of the whole Williamson County System but we thought the boys may have more friends in this league than the Nolensville League they played in last winter.

Rylan is playing in the 7-8 year old league and Carter is in the 9-10 year old league this year.  Brian was planning on only coaching indoor soccer this year but offered to assist with both teams.

Rylan's coach is brand new to coaching but he's doing a good job.  He doesn't have a very strong team (somehow Rylan got on a team with no one he knows) but that gives Rylan the chance to shine.  However, in their first game, they only lost by one point.  It was an exciting end!  Rylan had a personal best 11 points!!!  He and a boy named Carter were the only ones to score (Carter hit his max of 16 points with a few minutes left).  Here is a video of Rylan scoring his first point of the season (also the first point of the game for both sides) ...

Carter is playing on his baseball coach's team.  The team is made up mostly of kids from his team and a few others.  Again, not the strongest team but not horrible.  Carter is average to stronger on the team.  He just really needs to get some confidence.  He didn't score in his game but I did see a lot of great defense from him (I had to leave in the 2nd quarter to take Rylan to his game).  Carter's team lost by a lot (25ish) but it's easy to pick out some of the things they need to work on that will make a huge difference.

We are looking forward to a fun season this year without the pressure of being a head coach!

Running Club

Carter finished up running club at the beginning of November.  It was a shorter season because there were a lot of rain outs but Carter still really enjoyed it.

During the semester the boys run a "mile" (actually 0.94 miles) a few times and are timed.  The top boys get their pictures in the gym.  Carter REALLY wanted to make it on that poster.  He stayed in the top five all season.  But on the last day of running club, he took off a few more seconds and actually got the top time of the season!!!  His best time was 6:18 (which is 6:42/mile pace).  We are SO PROUD of Carter for setting a goal for himself and achieving it!
