Carter did really well today eating some rice cereal. He actually swallowed quite a bit of it. We did have an "accident" midway through the feeding though when Carter managed to grab the bowl and flip it sending cereal flying all over the table, floor, refrigerator, and me. Oops. Luckily Brian was around to let Charlotte outside before she could start cleaning up the mess for me.

First Teeth!!!
I discovered today that Carter's two middle bottom teeth are starting to come in!!! If you zoom into this picture, you can kind of make out where they are just starting to break through.

Overalls
It's Cold!
It was 79F here on Sunday ... today it snowed! We had flurries all day.

Brian was supposed to be in West Virginia this week, but his trip got pushed back so he decided to take this week off and take some much needed vacation. We don't have much planned - just catch up on some stuff around the house and if it gets warm, do a little hiking with Carter.

Stroller Dilemma
How many strollers do we really need?
Carter is getting big enough to sit in his Chicco Cortina stroller without having to be in the carseat (the carseat snaps into the stroller). Though when running errands if we won't be in a store too long, I leave him in the carseat so I don't have to buckle him back into it when we get back to the car (he hates that process).

I've loved this stroller but it's huge when in a crowd and it doesn't fold up very compactly. So I know I'll be wanting an umbrella-type of stroller at some point that is smaller. Home Goods had a few Maclaren strollers there on Friday. I've had a few people recommend this brand to me and decided to get the Quest Sport.

I paid $150 for this stroller that is normally $220-245. It's a nice stroller, but I'm not sure if we really need to spend this much on an umbrella-type stroller. Especially since I still really, really, really want a jogging stroller. So I'm trying to decide if I should return it and get a cheaper umbrella-type stroller. Though, I think putting some money into this stroller makes sense since it'll probably be the one we use the most often as Carter gets older.
I'd absolutely love a BOB jogging stroller - they have the best reviews, but I don't think I can bring myself to pay $300+. So I'm currently spending all my free time researching jogging strollers to figure out what would be the best stoller for us. And to make everything more complicated, I'm trying to decide if we should be getting a double jogging stroller so that when we have a second kid, I don't have to get another jogging stroller.
Hopefully I'll make a decision soon because I'd love to run outside with Carter as much as possible before the summer heat sets in.
I had a soccer game today. We don't have a keeper this session so I took a turn playing in goal today. I did pretty well considering how long it's been since I played keeper. We won 2-1 and I couldn't do anything about the one goal the other team scored. We had a defensive breakdown where two guys thought the other was getting the ball and someone from the other team kicked the ball instead and popped it over my head. If I'm going to have to play in goal again, I'm going to need new gloves. Mine are from high school and 12+ years old and falling apart.

Nice Hat
We took Carter to Anchor Park for a little bit today because it was the first pretty day we've had in a while. I bought Carter a few new hats because he's grown out of all the ones we had for him. This hat is still a little too big so when he turns his head, the front ends up on the side of his head. I think it's cute like that.

New Toys
I bought Carter a swing today.

We're planning on attaching it to the side of the deck where it is about 5 feet off the ground. Carter's probably still a little too small for the swing, but if we stuff some blankets around him, he may be able to use it already. Toys 'R Us had a buy one, get one free deal on Little Tikes toys this week so I got Carter an activity walker too.

He's getting so strong when I hold him in a standing position. I only have to hold his hands and he can stay standing for quite a while.
Carter has really had a set back with night time sleeping this last week. A few nights he's started screaming about an hour after we put him to bed. He'll scream like he's in pain or scared for five or ten minutes and then usually fall back asleep for five or ten minutes and then start again. After doing this a few times, he just doesn't go back to sleep. His eyes are closed while he's screaming so it seems like he's not awake and having a nightmare. Sometimes Carter will stop screaming after we pick him up but as soon as we put him back down, he screams again. If we manage to get him down again, he's been starting the screaming again within 15 minutes. We've ended up having to turn on lights and wake him up completely for a little bit to get him to "reset". I went out to lunch with my friends from Baby Bookworms on Wednesday and the nine month old son of one of the women seems to do the same thing some times. He is really similar to Carter with his daytime cat naps (though at five months he started taking one longer nap, though never in his crib). Even though all the books say babies don't have bad dreams until they are at least a year old, her pediatrician seemed to think that's what was going on. We think Carter may be going through a developmental change and his little brain is just having trouble figuring stuff out. Hopefully the screaming will stop soon because we hate it for him.
Other nights Carter has woken up in the middle of the night and is just not interested in going back to sleep. And then a few nights he's gotten up twice to be fed. Hopefully we'll get our good night time sleeper back soon! It's hard when he doesn't sleep well during the day or night!

I did it!
I ran the Knoxville Half Marathon today! And I'm happy with my time. The official results aren't up yet, but I timed myself at 2 hrs, 12 minutes, 20 seconds. That's 10:06 pace. So I was about 17 minutes slower than 3 years ago, but I did have a baby 4 1/2 months ago! A baby that allowed me to only sleep 4 hours last night and caused me to be up since 3am! Last night was the worst night Carter's had in weeks. Go figure.
It was 46F, cloudy, and super windy for the race. That's 20 degrees warmer though than 3 years ago.
I was supposed to have a soccer game this afternoon but luckily it got canceled because of soggy field conditions (it's been raining on and off since Wednesday). My knees are really sore so I'm not sure I would have been able to contribute much.
