Rylan - Lil Sluggers

The boys finished up a session of Lil Sluggers the week before Christmas.  This was Rylan's first session.  He was in the level one of the 3-year-old class at 4pm on Tuesdays.  He had Coach Scott this session and he was great!  He was a little older than the coaches (who are usually college students) - he has his own kids that are elementary school age.  Even though we could probably teach a lot of these skills at home, it's fun for the boys to do it with other kids and the coaches have some fun drills we wouldn't think of.  Plus some of the drills do require more than one kid.  And it's a great activity for the winter when it's too cold to be outside a lot.

Rylan had a lot of fun this session and was always so excited to go!  And so disappointed when it was Carter's day and not his!

We still aren't 100% sure Rylan is left-handed (but pretty sure).  We've tried not to force him to throw or bat one way or another - just let him do what feels natural.  For us, he's generally thrown left-handed and batted right-handed (though hitting is not as consistent).  I told that to his coach but every week Rylan was doing something different.  He looks unnatural throwing right-handed though (he steps with the wrong foot or the wrong shoulder is forward) so I'm pretty sure we are correct on him being left-handed.

Here are a couple of videos I took of Rylan during his last class.

In this one, the kids hit off the tee and then run the bases until a fielder throws the ball into the net at first base ...

And this is just batting practice ...

At the end of the last class, the kids got a medal!  Our kids treat medals like gold.  Carter tell me all the time how many he has (from races, gymnastics, and now baseball).  He even had to include a picture of them on his "all about me" poster for school.  And then Rylan will whine because he doesn't have as many (the trouble with being younger!).
