The boys were up nice and early Tuesday morning. After a little modeling ...
(someone refused to put on his shirt for awhile), we stopped for a quick breakfast and headed up to Corolla in Currituck County. Our first stop for the day was the Currituck Banks Reserve.
We planned on doing a 2 mile hike through this area. There was also a chance of seeing the wild horses on the hike, especially because it was still super windy and they might want to be protected in the trees. Unfortunately all we say were a few older poop piles I almost stepped in.
The first part of the hike was on a boardwalk to the sound.
We left the boardwalk about a third of the way out and took the Maritime Forest Trail instead to the sound.
Carter was excited to hike and walked 98% of it.
Brian and Rylan battled a bit, but Brian managed to make him walk about half.
The hike was really pretty with lots of low, gorgeous trees. The area is definitely very different than where we usually hike and the flatness was appreciated!
Carter thought we should continue into the sound (as some people obviously have) but I don't think he realizes what happens when you step into the black muck :)
Near the turnaround was a letterbox we managed to find.
And we found another hitchhiker in it (I think we're up to 4 already in the short time we've been doing this). I put a hitchhiker in the box we had found back in Franklin and took this one home so it'll get to travel.
On the walk back we stopped and let the boys climb some trees. Carter wasn't too sure at first (I put him in this one, he smiled for the camera, and then begged to get down).
But then he got super brave and was all over the trees.
Rylan didn't get as high but still had fun!
Apparently Rylan hiked too much. He fell asleep in the car on our short drive to lunch after the hike. He wouldn't wake up in the restaurant either and slept through our entire meal on this hard bench.
Which was fine because we had a nice quiet lunch just entertaining Carter at Bad Bean Taqueria.
We had great fish and shrimp tacos to fuel us up for the rest of the day.
