Imagination Library

Like Carter, Rylan has been getting books every month from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. For some reason neither boy got books in January, but we've been happy to get new books every other month.

I had expected that Rylan would get all the same books as Carter, but that hasn't been the case. We got Rylan's book for February yesterday and it was our first book that Carter already got.

Some books are better than others but who can complain when the books are free!

Mess

This is what Carter was up to while I changed Rylan's diaper today ...

He then brought Charlotte's bowls to me.

NC Trip - Day 9

This is ridiculously late, but I'm FINALLY posting about the end of our trip to North Carolina that we took back in October. I started this post in November, but life got really busy after Thanksgiving and I never finished it.

On Saturday, October 23rd, we were in Wilmington. We had spent the night at my mom's house and my sister (Karey) and Mike spent the night at my dad's house. They came over in the morning and we went to Halyburton Park so Carter could play for a bit.

Karey and Mike then met up with my dad and Jan and the rest of us went back to my mom's house for a little bit. While I fed Rylan and got our stuff together, my mom and Brian took Carter to Lowe's for the Build and Grow Workshop. They built a cool bat for Halloween.

We headed over to my dad's house after that for the day.

The guys took care of Carter and Rylan for a bit (Carter napped most of the time) while my sister, Jan, and I went downtown to do a little shopping.

When we got back we had some drinks, ate dinner, and played some bocce ball.

Carter really liked the straws!

Carter was a good cheerleader!

Bella, Karey and Mike's dog, was very tolerant of Carter ...

Around 7 pm we headed back to my mom's house, packed up our stuff, and got the boys to bed.

We drove back to Knoxville the next morning. The boys did really well during the drive and we barely stopped. We made it home in a little over 8 hours. We had a wonderful trip to North Carolina visiting our families!

Get Up Stand Up

Happy Boy

Even though he has a bit of a cold, I can get some smiles and laughs out of Rylan today ...

Gecko

Yesterday Carter got to pet a gecko while at the zoo storytime. He was super excited (as usual) to pet an animal.

Sleeping

I have been in survival mode for the last few weeks (months, actually). Rylan has become a worse and worse sleeper at night.

I routinely feed him at 7:30 pm every night and put him down about 15 minutes later. He almost always falls asleep eating and goes down easily.

Lately Rylan's been waking up a lot before we even go to bed. We often go in his room to check on him, pat his bum for a minute, and he goes back to sleep.

He usually wakes up around 10:30 or 11 pm and I feed him. On good nights he's up again in 2 or 3 hours. I rarely feed him if it's been less than 3 hours from his last feeding, but we do usually try to soothe him back to sleep so that he doesn't scream for too long and wake up Carter. I used to let Brian sleep and tend to Rylan on my own, but I've been so exhausted that he's been helping me out a lot lately. And now he's exhausted too.

Some nights Rylan is up every 30 minutes or hour.

Starting around 4, if Rylan wakes up, he's a lot harder to get back to sleep. Sometimes I feed him even if it hasn't been 3 hours since his last feeding just so I can get a little more sleep.

Rylan is always up for the day by 5:30 am. And so is Carter.

I'm so exhausted that it's difficult to get through the day. I'm shorter than I want to be with the boys and don't have the energy to think up lots of fun things to do at home.

I have officially had enough though. I have to get some sleep. The last few nights we have let Rylan cry it out sometimes. And if it's before 5:30 am, I've been leaving him in his crib too. Sometimes he wakes up Carter, but Carter's been dealing with it. We probably need a more structured plan of when we will and won't get him, but we also need some sleep to clearly think up a plan!

So, sorry Rylan that we're letting you cry so much! But you REALLY need to figure out how to sleep so that we can sleep and be better parents!!!

Gym Bugs Playdate

We had a playdate today with Meredith's kids at Gym Bugs. The boys pretty much did their own things, but I think both Carter and Blaine had lots of fun. The little ones were both really good the whole time we were there so Meredith and I also got to catch up.

After Gym Bugs we all went to McAlister's for lunch. I'm always a bit nervous about taking the boys out to lunch on my own, but everyone did great and it wasn't really stressful at all!

Carter had fun jumping on the trampoline ...

For some reason he really liked lining up the infant toys ...

Carter was really good at hanging from this bar. This video isn't the best at showing what he was doing, but Carter would hang there for 10 seconds at a time and then do it again right away.

Cut!

Carter got a much needed haircut today. He was initially not excited about "cut!", as he says, but as soon as he realized he got to sit on the tractor, he was great.

The barbers always try to give Carter a part, which doesn't work with his crazy hair. So the front ends up looking a little funny and long in the middle when his hair dries brushed forward, but overall I think it looks good.
