Sleeping

I have been in survival mode for the last few weeks (months, actually). Rylan has become a worse and worse sleeper at night.

I routinely feed him at 7:30 pm every night and put him down about 15 minutes later. He almost always falls asleep eating and goes down easily.

Lately Rylan's been waking up a lot before we even go to bed. We often go in his room to check on him, pat his bum for a minute, and he goes back to sleep.

He usually wakes up around 10:30 or 11 pm and I feed him. On good nights he's up again in 2 or 3 hours. I rarely feed him if it's been less than 3 hours from his last feeding, but we do usually try to soothe him back to sleep so that he doesn't scream for too long and wake up Carter. I used to let Brian sleep and tend to Rylan on my own, but I've been so exhausted that he's been helping me out a lot lately. And now he's exhausted too.

Some nights Rylan is up every 30 minutes or hour.

Starting around 4, if Rylan wakes up, he's a lot harder to get back to sleep. Sometimes I feed him even if it hasn't been 3 hours since his last feeding just so I can get a little more sleep.

Rylan is always up for the day by 5:30 am. And so is Carter.

I'm so exhausted that it's difficult to get through the day. I'm shorter than I want to be with the boys and don't have the energy to think up lots of fun things to do at home.

I have officially had enough though. I have to get some sleep. The last few nights we have let Rylan cry it out sometimes. And if it's before 5:30 am, I've been leaving him in his crib too. Sometimes he wakes up Carter, but Carter's been dealing with it. We probably need a more structured plan of when we will and won't get him, but we also need some sleep to clearly think up a plan!

So, sorry Rylan that we're letting you cry so much! But you REALLY need to figure out how to sleep so that we can sleep and be better parents!!!

Oh no- that is not a good sleeping pattern for his age! I hope you guys can figure something out soon. This is honestly one of my biggest fears about having two kids. Fin is a great sleeper. So we're doomed on the second one for sure. And I worry she will wake Fin up! Keep me posted on what you try and how things go! Good luck.
