Rylan Update

Rylan will be 9 months old on Monday. It's been a little while since I've done a post about what he's doing so here it goes ...

Rylan still isn't sleeping through the night. His sleeping schedule is not routine but it's better than it was. Every night is different - some nights are okay and others are just bad. I usually feed Rylan once during the night. Then we either help him back to sleep the other times he wakes up by holding him and walking around (he does not settle down when we sit in the glider) or we let him cry it out if he's up a lot. Sometimes I give up and just feed him again, though he sometimes refuses that too lately.

Rylan is still a cat napper. When in his crib, he sleeps for about 30 minutes. He'll sleep longer when he falls asleep in the car or on one of us. Carter was like that too for a long time - I need to look back to see when he finally started taking longer naps. I'm not on a very good schedule for Rylan since we try to get out a lot and do things so that's probably not helping.

In the last week I've started giving Rylan some pre-made baby food instead of homemade stuff. It's hard to find the time now to make everything for Rylan and it actually seems cheaper to buy the pre-made stuff. So far Rylan has greedily eaten everything we've tried (including meats).

For some reason I never gave Carter Puffs, only Cheerios. I've started buying Puffs though for Rylan because it's easy to keep a container of them in the car for him. Not only does Rylan love them, but Carter loves them too. Carter also loves to feed them to Rylan by sticking them directly in his mouth.

Rylan's favorite toys are hard plastic balls (1 to 1 1/2 inch diameter) that come with various toys we have. He can pull out the couple of balls from a box of dozens of Little People stuff right away.

Rylan is still really good in the car around town. He usually only cries when he's tired and then will fall asleep after 5 minutes or so. I remember singing so many songs to Carter when driving because it was the only thing that kept him from screaming the whole time (and he had a paci)!

Rylan is babbling a lot and making more and more new sounds. He says "mamamamama" a lot, but I don't think he knows that is what I'm called.

Today Rylan started clapping for the first time. We were hanging out with Amy and her kiddos after Toddler Storytime at the library and Rylan just started bringing his hands together. He was so happy about it too! Here is a short video of what he was doing (it's not much, but it's a start) ...

I also noticed today that Rylan is getting tooth number 8 (bottom right lateral incisor). Like Carter, he's been getting teeth a few months before the average age to get them. Maybe we'll take a little break now before he gets his molars and eye teeth.

And here's a cute picture of Rylan with his friend Alek (Amy's little boy who is about 6 weeks younger than Rylan) ...
