Baseball games start a week from Monday. Carter's team had a scrimmage on Saturday to see how they are doing and also allow the umps to get some practice. Because this weekend was the beginning of spring break around here, our team was a little short on players. Jeff (our coach) asked Rylan to play with the team. Rylan was a little nervous but also excited. We have some great kids on Carter's team and they were all cheering for Rylan even before the game got started.
Both Carter and Rylan did GREAT! Both got a hit every single at bat (the boys get 5 coach pitches and if they don't hit one, they are out).
Carter got a few outs at first when the ball was hit to him and he fielded it and tagged the bag. He also got a couple of outs when the ball was thrown to him at first. Rylan fielded a ball at second base and threw it to Carter at first base for an out. Once when Carter was playing outfield, he covered second and tagged a runner that overran the bag.
Rylan even ALMOST caught a fly ball. It was a bit of a line drive and was just too much to hold onto (pulled has hand and glove back so much when it hit the webbing that it just kept going).
Carter's team ended up winning 15-9. They were much better than the other team. This is the first season that Carter's team will be keeping score. There is also a tournament at the end of the season for the first time.
All the boys did great, Rylan did so awesome that Coach Jeff even gave him a game ball!!! Rylan played two age groups up in this game and he totally held his own!
Rylan with Jack Henry (one of the coach's sons on the team who is also on Carter's soccer team).
