Dr. Seuss Week

Last week the boys both had Dr. Seuss Week at school.  It was a little last minute with Carter's teacher letting us know on Friday and Rylan's on Sunday night, but it all came together.  Plus Rylan started going to school an hour earlier last week (8 am instead of 9 am) and we had multiple dentist and ortho appointments making for some crazy mornings.  Rylan's kindergarten is regulated by the county so they have to get in a required number of hours this year.  They have shorter days and no snow days built into the calendar so they are having to make up all their missed time.  For three weeks they are going in an hour early to make up for 3 missed days of school.

Rylan kept changing his mind all week on who he wanted to be.  Finally on Wednesday night he settled on a Thing (I think he figured out some of his friends were also going to be Things).  I bought a red shirt and cut out black and white felt to add "Thing 1" to the shirt.  For the blue hair, I bought a baseball cap, cut off the brim, and wrapped (and glued) a boa to the hat (thanks Suzy for the great idea!).  Rylan turned out pretty cute!!!

Carter's entire school had a character parade on Friday so they could dress like any book character.  He'd recently read a Geronimo Stilton Cavemice book and wanted to dress like the main character.  For the head I added felt ears to a white hat.  For the body I added a white felt tummy to a brown shirt.  I made a black tail out of felt and a wire hanger and attached it to brown pants.  Then I used a section of green fabric for the caveman clothes and added darker green felt to match the character's outfit.  Carter makes a cute cavemouse!
