I had bought some snorkel sets on clearance at the end of last summer and the boys were super excited to try them out in the shallow water.
Carter especially liked looking for shells in the water this way (the same type of shells were in the sand just out of the water but this was much cooler!). However Carter had been diagnosed with swimmer's ear two days earlier so I had to keep reminding his to keep his ear out of the water (and shake it out if he did get any water in it).
We also spent a lot of time building sand castles. However, Carter somehow worked it that my mom and I did all the work. Carter would direct us on what to do (and kept using the excuse that his molds would fall apart). He did put a lot of thought into his designs though :)
I think we spent about 5 hours at the beach that day before heading back to my mom's house. After cleaning up, we celebrated Rylan's birthday again. My mom made cupcakes and then gave Rylan all his presents. He was especially excited about all the TNMT stuff!
We did an easy dinner at Chick-fil-A and then headed down to Kure Beach. Our first stop was the Kure Beach Pier. The boys were really brave approaching this pelican.
Until he did this :)
Carter and I saw several jellyfish in the water but never saw anyone catch anything.
We took a couple of group photos before moving on ...
Our last stop was at Fort Fisher. It was a gorgeous night!
The boys love to climb on these rocks (that they aren't supposed to be on).
We crossed the street to the Fort Fisher visitors center (which was already closed) and hung out by an anchor and cannon.
Rylan was done with walking so I went to get the car and took a few more pictures on my way ...
After this it was back to Grandma's house and off to bed!
