Family Date Day

We had wonderful weather here all weekend. Yesterday got to the low 60s and I think today got to the upper 60s.

We took the boys and Charlotte for a walk yesterday. It was windy so they still needed some layers to keep warm, but sweatshirts and a blanket were plenty.

Today we had a family date day. We went to the zoo and then out to lunch. It was a great day. We've been so busy with the holidays, visiting with family, and catching up at home the last few weeks that it was really nice to take some time for just our little family to hang out.

Carter and Brian spotted a couple of bears in the trees getting some sun ...

It was still a little cool this morning when we got to the zoo at 10 am, but Rylan looked warm in his stroller.

The penguins and Carter weren't scared of each other at all. This one even made a bunch of noises for Carter!

Even though you can't see him in this picture, Rylan seemed to like watching the penguins too.

This guy needs a haircut, BAD!

Rylan, just before he fell asleep for awhile ...

Carter wouldn't go see the monkeys until I let him get on the lion.

Carter was still too scared to go up to the glass of the gibbon exhibit, but he did enjoy talking to the gibbon from a distance!

Carter really liked looking at the white tiger.

Carter and Brian checking out the chimps ...

The red panda cubs (the pair was born just before Rylan) kept hopping up to the window and weren't at all scared of all the kids. Carter was trying to pet this one through the glass. I don't understand why he's scared of the monkeys and not anything else!

Our last stop was the carousel. Rylan got to ride on the carousel for the first time today. (He technically rode on a carousel in Lexington, but I was holding him then instead of him actually riding on one of the animals so I don't count that ride.)

After spending a couple of hours at the zoo, we went to Dead End BBQ for lunch. This was only the second sit-down restaurant with waiters that we've been to with both boys. Even though Carter was falling asleep on the way there, both boys did great through lunch.

We had a very yummy lunch and then headed home. Hopefully we'll have more nice days soon as well as more family dates!
