Rylan Update

I did an update on Carter the other day and wanted to do one for Rylan too. So here is a list of random stuff that's going on with Rylan recently:
  • Rylan is finally able to wear clothes for longer than 2 weeks. He's still growing like crazy but not quite as quickly anymore. He's wearing 12-18 month sized clothes right now. Pants are still the biggest challenge because he's got such thick thighs and a large tummy. Most pants cut into his waist and look like they are about to break all the seams at his thighs because they are stretched so tight. Rylan just doesn't look comfortable in most pants. So he's stuck wearing what looks like boy's leggings by Carter's most of the time. They aren't the most fashionable, but at least they look comfortable. Sleeper are also a challenge. He's wearing 18 month sized footed sleepers that barely zipper across his thighs but are about 4 inches too long so his feet aren't in the footed part.
  • We've discovered that Rylan has a VERY ticklish neck. Even the pediatrician noticed it the other day and thought it was funny. He said that most kids aren't really ticklish yet at this age.
  • Rylan is very much like Carter was at this age in that he gets so bored at home. If we're home all day, I'm fighting him being fussy all day long (even when I'm interacting with him constantly). But if we're out and about doing something, he's generally happy enough.
  • Rylan has not been sleeping well for a few months now (crazy enough, he used to sleep better his first couple of months). I feed him and put him to bed between 7:30 and 8 pm every night. On good nights, he's up about every 3 hours to eat but will go back to sleep while eating and I can put him back in his crib. On not so good nights he's up more often and is not easy to console. We try to put him back in his crib after feedings or after consoling him, but if it's after 4 am, we usually put him in the playyard or bouncer in our room because Carter wakes up very easily when Rylan makes any noise after that time. Rylan is usually up for the day by 5:30 am, if not earlier. Carter's never far behind.
  • Rylan still generally takes 30 minute naps. I usually put him in his crib for a nap but he does take the occasional nap in his bouncer or on me if Carter is napping. Over the last week Rylan has taken a couple of hour long naps which hopefully means he might start sleeping longer sometime soon. He does take long naps (2 or more hours) in the car when we're traveling so I know it's possible for him to take longer naps.
  • I'm still giving Rylan baths in the baby tub because he's not sitting up on his own completely yet. He's not overly happy during baths, but he doesn't ever hate them either. He's pleasant the whole time and lately doesn't splash too much which makes it easier.
  • I'm working everyday on Rylan's sitting. He's getting better, but still doesn't have his balance completely figured out. Because he's got so much weight to him, I think when he starts leaning one way that it's just too hard to recover and he falls over! I've been putting him in the seat of carts sometimes but I have to stuff blankets around him to keep him from slumping over to one side too much.
  • Rylan isn't crawling yet, but he's getting closer to getting up on his knees. He can push himself way up on his arms and start rocking. Sometimes Rylan scoots around a bit but it's usually backwards instead of forwards.
  • Rylan's favorite food is carrots. He eats them up so fast. We're still doing 2 solid meals a day but I really need to start doing 3 a day. Hopefully tomorrow I'll start working that third meal into our schedule.
  • Rylan's favorite place to poop is his Exersaucer right now. He has a blowout about half the time I put him in it. Apparently standing up is THE position to be in! I'm actually scared to put him in there if he hasn't recently pooped!
