The animal brought in today was a snake. Carter was very excited and did a great job making a snake sound over and over and over again. He was the first one to touch the snake and got to pet it again before it was put away. Only about half the kids were willing to touch the snake, but Carter had no hesitation at all!
Ms. Paula prepared these snakes for us and then let the kids color them and add yarn tongues.

After storytime, we headed over to the indoor play area for about half an hour. The only animals between the two buildings are the penguins but luckily some of them were hanging out by the window so Carter got to say a quick hi (it was still in the 20s and cold!).
Carter had fun running around and Rylan wasn't too fussy watching everyone. There are a few small animals in the play area, including these degus that Rylan stared at for awhile (this is the best picture I could take while also holding Rylan).
I had to bribe Carter with a snack to convince him to leave without getting upset. He just loves the zoo so much! On the way to the car he told me, "No see ahh-ahhs." If only the monkeys weren't at the back of the zoo!
Here's a picture of Carter showing off his snake on the way home ...
I decided to start working on letters with Carter. So this morning I printed out a few coloring sheets and we worked on A, B, and C. Carter was able to say all three letters and pick them out correctly when I asked which one was which but I'm not sure he'll remember what he learned by this afternoon. We'll keep working on it though!
