"Melon Mania"

Today's gardening class was all about watermelon - yum!  Unfortunately my boys don't like watermelon.  However, they both gave it a try.

I think they both liked their piece until they got a seed.  They were eating "sugar baby" watermelons which have a decent amount of small seeds.

After Ms. Lisa was finished teaching the kids lots of watermelon facts, she asked them questions about what she had talked about.  If you answered a question correctly, you got a prize from the garden (or the farmer's market that Ms. Lisa had brought along).  There were 2 watermelons and 7 pumpkins (from the kids' garden!) up for grabs.

Carter won the first prize of the day!  He (all on his own) answered the question, "Where did watermelons originate?"  His correct answer was, "The desert."  He won his own sugar baby watermelon!  I'm sure he won't eat it, but he was SO PROUD!

All the kids that didn't win a big pumpkin got a little one from their garden.

The kids also got to take home a tomato from their garden and a pepper Ms. Lisa brought from the farmer's market.

In addition, all the kids got some watermelon flavored candy.  This was our "haul" for the day!
