The boys and I still had a blast. Lauren has an amazing house with a gorgeous pool on a huge piece of land. There were probably about a dozen families with lots of kids (babies to teenagers).
The boys pretty much only wanted to swim so the three of us spent the majority of the evening in the pool.
Carter has gained so much confidence this year with swimming. We've only been to a pool about five times but he is doing great. He's wearing his swim vest but he's able to swim across the pool on his own now. He's figured out a little breathing method as he bobs along and doesn't want me to help him. He made a new friend (Remy) who just turned three and is an amazing swimmer (she doesn't need anything to help keep her afloat and she can swim all over). Carter loves to hold little girls' hands (he's a player already!) and even swam across the pool with Remy holding hands!
He even copied the big kids and decided he wanted to jump off this wall!
Synchronized jumping with Will ...
I'm so proud of Carter!
Rylan did great in the pool too and was a real trooper putting up with getting splashed in the face over and over again as Carter jumped in. He likes to jump in too but still wants me to catch him before his face goes in the water.
I eventually dragged the boys out of the pool to eat some dinner.
Missy brought along their dog Dixie because she freaks out during fireworks and thought it would be better for her not to be home alone. She hung out with the boys as they ate hoping for scraps.
Lauren also set up a cookie decorating station for the kids.
Carter dropped his cookie on the way to sit down (I enforced the 5 second rule, even though it landed frosting side down) and Rylan was upset that I used red (or pink) frosting for his. He made me turn the cookie upside down for him to eat so he didn't see the frosting!
When we went back in the pool, Rylan finally let me put his swim vest on for the first time ever. He seemed to really enjoy floating more than me holding him.
When it started getting dark, we did some small fireworks at Lauren's house.
Rylan was content sitting in a chair and just staring at everything going on around him.
The older boys were prepared for any fires with water guns (they were actually necessary a few times).
I love how Carter was copying the older boys prepared to put out any fires. He followed around Lauren's older son (Wesley) a lot doing anything he told Carter to do (which wasn't anything bad).
Lauren also had sparklers for the kids.
After a little more swimming we all got changed and drove down to the entrance of Lauren's neighborhood to watch the Franklin fireworks that we being set off at Harlinsdale Farm.
The boys loved the fireworks. Neither of them was the least bit scared. Carter has been talking about them all day today.
When the fireworks were over we headed home. Both boys did great all evening even though they stayed up a couple of hours past their bedtime. Today though has been a little rough since neither of them slept in but it's been worth it because we had so much fun last night!
