The boys had their first day of school yesterday!
They both did just fine when I dropped them off at their rooms.
I took Carter to his room first. He walked right in, found a bucket of cars, and started playing. He was the first one in his room but was quickly joined by familiar faces (Carter's entire class from last minus one boy that switched schools are together again as well as his friend Sophie from his first year at PDO).
I dropped Rylan off second. He only has one boy in his class from last year (all the other kids are doing 3 days a week while Rylan and Maddox are doing 2 days). There were a few other kids in Rylan's room already with parents that didn't seem to want to leave their kids. But Rylan walked right in, wandered around a bit, and found a seat. He didn't seem to want to talk to anyone but also didn't seem scared. So I went ahead and left since I didn't think he needed me.
Unfortunately I didn't get to talk to the teachers much at pickup because I had to get the boys a few minutes early and rush over to Crockett Elementary school for Carter's speech session.
I got Carter first and Ms. Denise was already getting him ready to go. She said Carter did great and that's about it. The kids were taking their short rest on their mats (with the lights on) and of course saw Carter leaving. Hunt yelled out, "Bye, Carter" and then it seemed the entire class also said it. It was really, really sweet. Oh, and when we had seen Hunt before school started, he'd yelled out "Carter!!!" and gave him a huge hug. Carter brought home this art project ...
Next I got Rylan. His classroom was still dark with napping kiddos. Ms. Cynthia was putting things in the kids' school bags in the hall so she grabbed Ms. Linda to get Rylan. Ms. Linda had to figure out where they had put Rylan down for nap in the dark room so I had a minute to talk to Ms. Cynthia. She said Rylan is super sweet and did great. She said he was the ONLY one to help her pick up when the class was asked to help. Ms. Linda had to wake Rylan up but as soon as he was out of the room, he ran off to speech. Rylan brought home this art project ...
It was really hard to get anything out of the boys when I tried to ask them how their first day was.
Carter said he had fun. He really liked going outside twice. He even said he liked Ms. Denise better than Ms. Anne (his teacher from last year) because she is faster (whatever that means!). Carter was proud of his sticker he got for good behavior and was excited to tell me that once he gets 9 stickers, he gets something out of the treasure chest. He also told me about the boy that got a timeout and didn't get any stickers. There are 4 boys and 9 girls in Carter's class and the boy that got the timeout is the one that wasn't in Carter's class last year. He said he played with Hunt, Campbell, and Sophie and they build the tallest tower ever. He also said they can pick where they sit at lunch and that he sat next to Hunt and Campbell (the 2 boys that were in his class last year).
I got NOTHING out of Rylan. When I asked him if he had fun, he said no. But he says that after EVERYTHING we do. We could go to Disney World and have a great time and he'd say the same thing.
I'm still happy with the boys' teachers and I'm looking forward to getting to know them better in the next few weeks so I can find out more about how the boys are doing. I did bring them all cupcakes yesterday at pickup from Gigi's Cupcakes to try to get on their good sides :)
