Soccer Games

The boys had their first soccer games of the fall season today!  And they both did great!

Carter played the first game of the day at 9 am.

Carter did really well.  We still need to work on being aggressive, but he did score 3 goals.  But Carter does spend more time watching the action than getting into it.  We haven't really figured out why - he's not scared and he knows how to play.  But he's great when he can get the ball and have a breakaway.  I didn't record anything but here is a series of photos of his first goal!

This picture makes me laugh every time I see it.  Carter is in the back with his hands up telling all the boys to stop pushing.  (I'm probably yelling from behind the camera for him to get in there!)

Carter did play a little defense and kicked the ball away from a player a couple of times.

Here are a couple of pictures of Carter scoring his third goal ...

Like last year, Carter's team splits between two fields to play two 4 v 4 games at the same time.  Carter's team dominated their game - if we kept score, it may have been 15 to 1.  The game of the other field was more evenly matched and probably would have been about 5 to 5.

Carter has a little boy on his team though that is going to be a challenge for Brian.  Here is a short list of some of the fun things he did DURING the game:

  1. Pull down the opposing team's goal when no one was looking.
  2. Pick up the ball 10 feet from the goal and throw it in.
  3. Put his head in Brian's shirt several times.
  4. Punch Brian (I thought he was going to get him where it counts!).
  5. Dribble the ball out of bounds all the way to the woods.
  6. Dribble the ball onto another field where another game was being played.

He also makes practices challenging by knocking down all the cones Brian sets up before he can even begin a game or drill.  And then hangs all over Brian.  Hopefully things improve as the season progresses :)

Rylan played later today at 1 pm.  Between games we went to Home Depot to do the Kids Workshop and went home for lunch.  Rylan fell asleep on the way home and slept on Brian for about 30 minute at the house so that little nap really helped him for the 1 pm game!

And he did amazing.  I really think that practicing with Carter's team so much last year really helped him know what he was supposed to do when he got on the field.  I lost track but I think he scored at least 7 goals.  It didn't hurt that we were the dominant team on our field (though the other team still scored a few times) but we had another boy score just as many as Rylan and a couple of the others score a few too.

Rylan kicking off ...

And taking the ball down for a goal!

I have A LOT of blondes on my team this year!  It has been hard for me to learn names but I think I have them all straight now!  This is Mason, Owen, Radnor, and Rylan.  Both Mason and Radnor were in Rylan's PDO class last year.

Another goal ...

Proud boy after scoring ...

The game on the other field was apparently lopsided the other way so I moved Rylan over at halftime because it would of been hard to get parents to move (they we all sitting on the outside of the fields in the shade instead of between the two fields).  I hated to make Rylan switch but he decided he would teach the other kids how to score (I had told him they were having trouble scoring and needed him).  However I think he was confused being over there (and Brian said he could still hear me over there because I'm apparently loud :) ) so he didn't really play much.  For the last quarter the other team moved their good player to my field and Rylan came back.  Energy was fizzling at that point since they kids were really hot but both teams scored a few more times.

I think Carter and Rylan had fun and I know they were both proud of all the goals they scored.  And we are super proud of their effort.  We're looking forward to next weekend!
