Here's the zoo's description of the exhibit:
Kangaroo Kickabout features 4,500 square feet of naturalistic Australian landscape. Guests can view the ‘roos from an outside area, or get a closer experience by walking a winding path through the middle of the habitat. While guests must stay on the pathway, kangaroos are free to wander the exhibit.
I have to say I was really surprised when they started advertising the exhibit and it looked to be a sort of petting zoo.
The boys and I were meeting friends at the zoo but we got there before it opened so we could get to the kangaroos first thing before the exhibit got crowded. Which was a great idea. When we got there, the kangaroos were almost all on the path so we got to go right up to them. Only a few of the 17 kangaroos were up for being petted. The others would hop off the path and return when we passed.
I had no idea kangaroos were so soft! It was so neat getting to hang out with them and pet them! Much better than the goats we usually get to pet :)
Here are a couple of videos too!
Missy and Lauren showed up with Will, Luke, and Vaughn at about 9:20 and all but one of the kangaroos were off the path already. They knew the school groups were coming :)
Suzy also came with Chase and Hutch. We had lots of fun today and stayed for almost 4 1/2 hours!!! All the kids were still full of energy but us moms were done :)
Carter walked around half the zoo holding Luke's hand. My kids LOVE Luke.
