Franklin Classic

Today Brian and Carter ran in the Franklin Classic.  Brian did the 5K and Carter did the 1K.  This is a larger race that also includes a 10K.  Amongst the various races, there were over 2,000 runners.  The race is in it's 35th year as well.

I got a picture of all the boys before the race ...

And then Carter stole my camera and got a picture of me and Brian (hey, I'm finally in a picture :) ) ...

Brian hasn't been running much but still finished under 30 minutes (his goal for the day).  Someone cut him off and stepped on him about 1/2 mile in and he strained a calf pretty good so he did great pushing through the injury!

The 10K was run first, then the 5K, with the Kids 1K being last.  Brian watched Rylan while I ran with Carter.

I tried to take a picture of Carter and me while we waited at the starting line ...

The race started a little late because we kept having to wait for large groups of 5K walkers to come across the finish line that was right in front of the starting line.

But after being told several times that we'd start in just a minute, we finally did (that is hard on a 4 year old!!!).

Brian took this video about 1 block from the starting line.  Carter and I are wearing orange and on the other side of the street ...

Carter did great!  He was a little slow starting off because we decided on medium speed before the race when I told him not to start off sprinting (medium speed to him is really slow!).  And then he stopped about 4 or 5 times to walk a little and catch his breath before taking off again (after the first walk break he ran fast each time).

Here is Carter and me about a block from the finish - Carter was so excited to see Brian and Rylan!

Carter finished the 1K in 7:52 (which is 12:40/mile pace)!  We are both super proud of him!  And he was super happy to get a participation medal!!!
