Sick Appointment

Both boys had their fair share of colds and a stomach bug each this winter.  But somehow we had avoided any sick visits to the pediatrician - amazing!  However, today, at the beginning of summer, we had our first one.

Carter woke up early this morning and was just in a funk.  Then he started saying that his ear hurt.  Carter didn't have a fever but I told him we could go to the doctor and get it checked.  Then he got upset and told me he was okay.  I eventually got out of him that he was scared he'd have to get a shot.  We talked a lot and I told him nothing would hurt and he told me he'd be brave.  I gave Carter some ibuprofen and he was pretty much his normal self for the rest of the morning.

We got an appointment for 11 am.  Carter did really well.  The only rough part was getting swabbed for strep - the test was negative but he did have a swollen lymph node.  One ear had a mild infection but since ibuprofen seemed to help with the pain and Carter didn't have a fever, the pediatrician recommended only filling the prescription she gave me if he got worse.

So we went home and the boys took naps.  Carter woke up warm and grumpy so I decided to get his prescription filled.  He was so happy when we were out and made it a couple of hours until crashing at dinner.  Brian has been out of town all week and drove home this afternoon so we had met him out for dinner.  By bedtime Carter was really hot (though the thermometer is only saying about 99.5F).  Hopefully the antibiotics kick in overnight and Carter's happier tomorrow!

Before Carter started feeling too rough, we had gone out for a morning run.  Rylan got up at his normal time but Carter was up a little early so we were out by 6:30 am.  That's earlier than normal for us but it meant we saw a lot of wildlife, including a woodpecker and this turtle crossing the road.

Carter decided to name the turtle "Mister Mister Turtle Turtle".
