Cheekwood Spring Art Hop

After the Color Run, we went to Cheekwood for the Spring Art Hop and their Easter activities.  Just like last year, they had giant balloon carrots!

We had about 30 minutes before the first round of egg hunts, so we stood in line for some balloon animals.  Next to that line, there was the "musical petting zoo".  While Brian and Rylan stood in line, my mom and I took Carter over to try out some instruments.  He was good at the harpsichord ...

But really, really liked the banjo.  He was so cute looking up at the instructor for affirmation that he was playing it correctly!

The balloon animal line was taking longer than I'd hoped so my mom and I took Rylan over to the first egg hunt for his age (2 and under).  The hunts for his age were in the Wills Perennial Garden just under the mansion.

They threw the eggs out right before letting the kids get them since there are lots of little ones that are hard to contain and keep from collecting eggs before the start.

Notice that shiny egg in Rylan's basket!?!?  He found one of the two golden eggs!  Actually I saw it and strongly encouraged him to pick it up.

Rylan got to turn in the golden egg and pick out a prize.  He got a wind-up jumping frog.

After Rylan's egg hunt, Brian and Carter found us with the balloon animals.  Carter got Spiderman!  He asked for a rabbit for Rylan because that was what we'd talked about getting while we'd been in line but then Rylan was a bit upset that he didn't get a Spiderman as well.

On the way over to find us, Carter ran into the Easter Bunny.

Carter informed me though that this was not the real Easter Bunny and just a guy.  Apparently there was a ponytail sticking out of the head and somehow the head also started falling off.  Carter also informed me that the Easter Bunny we'd seen at the Brentwood City Egg Hunt a few days earlier was not real (though he'd thought it was up until that point).

Next we went over to Mustard Meadow for the 5 and under egg hunt for Carter.  Brian went with Carter while my mom, Rylan, and I stood on the side and watched.  Carter is in the center of this photo with Brian behind him.

And they are off!  Somehow (I think), no one got trampled!

Carter was looking at eggs and not picking them up.  I was not sure why until I remembered the same thing happening last year.  Apparently we had talked too much about Rylan's golden egg and Carter wanted one too.

Carter eventually picked up a few eggs but was EXTREMELY disappointed about not getting a golden egg.

I didn't want to end like this so we decided to do one more egg hunt each.  Brian and Carter went over to Howe Meadow to do another hunt (they were every 30 minutes) while my mom and I took Rylan back to the Wills Perennial Garden.  Apparently Carter was still very hung up on the golden egg but Brian came up with the idea that they each had a job.  Brian would search for a golden egg and Carter had to collect as many of the other eggs as he could.  That worked out superb and when we met back up afterwards, Carter was very happy.

Before leaving, we went inside the Botanic Hall to do the ARTivities.  First the boys made pencil tulip toppers.

Then they made Easter Ears.

I really liked the bunny Carter added to his!

We listened to Rachel Sumner perform for a little bit and then left before the boys fell asleep (they were both getting drooping eyelids).
