More Rocks!

On Friday I had hoped to go to Lucky Ladd Farms for their Easter celebration but the weather was not cooperating.  It ended up raining lightly most of the day so Brian and I decided to work on a couple of yard projects instead while my mom played with the boys inside.

We had put in a bed last fall around on of our fence gates and the water that drains from the back yard to the front goes through this area.  Thus the mulch gets washed out.  Now that we know exactly where the water flows, we want to install a dry rock bed.  We built one of these at our first house in Knoxville so we knew what we wanted.

We picked up a trailer on Friday morning and headed down to Beasley's Yard, our favorite rock place.  They totally know us there now.  The guy that placed our boulders a couple of weeks back is the one that delivered rocks for us last summer and he remembers doing the delivery.  The guy that does the sales now gives us 10% off or more on our purchases because we guy so much from them.

Anyway, we got one scoop (half a yard) of river slicks.  We also picked out 250 lbs of larger, matching rocks to add in.

Because it was raining and we didn't want to work in the muck (we've done that plenty of times before - it's not fun), we just dumped the rocks and ran over to Lowe's to pick up peat moss since we had the trailer (we are planning on seeding the backyard with a power seeder soon and wanted to put it down first).  While there, we found a tree for the backyard.  We wanted a larger tree between two beds along the back of our fence.  We found a large bald cypress for $100 and since we had the trailer, it was possible to get home!

We planted it in the late afternoon in the rain when it was obvious it wasn't going to stop for the day.

I took the picture of the tree yesterday when we finally had a little sun (it's been pretty rare lately).

The weather this weekend is looking great so we are hoping to get that dry rock bed installed.  Hopefully I'll have pictures to share by Sunday!
